HDD Temperature Pro v1.2.1
12/02/2003 12:21 AMHDD Temperature is monitoring software that protects your hard-drives
from getting overheated. Using S.M.A.R.T. technology included in all
modern HDDs, HDD Temperature checks and monitors the temperature of
your hard drives; you can also set the maximum value of drive
temperature so that you will be warned should this temperature be
exceeded. HDD Temperature Pro can monitor multiple HDDs, work as
network service and send e-mail alerts. [Shareware $19.95 30 Days

Taking your bl0g's temperature
Taking your bl0g's temperature
07/22/2002 05:40 AM"Lloyd Nebres had a great idea, to take your weblog's temperature by
rating each day's posts by whether you were hot or not, and then
displaying a calendar view with colored dots that show at a glance how
you were, or at least how you blogged, over the course of a month.Phil
Ulrich took the idea and ran with it, creating a PHP/Movable Type
scheme for automatically generating average daily ratings that you
display by the date header or in the calendar."Here's how Lloyd Nebres
defined hotness: "...which of course begs the question: "significant"
to whom, or about what? Well, significant to me. It's a way for me to
take each weblog day's temperature, so to speak, and codify it in a
very personal and subjective manner; there's nothing scientific and
objective about it at all."Another idea would be to rate hotness
depending on how many inbound links you had by day ("trackback
hotness"?) and map this value to the calendar.

Intel reduces transistor size by 30%
08/30/2004 02:07 PMIntel have announced a new technology allowing them to reduce the size
of their transistors by up to 30%. Industry analysts had been
forecasting a major technological barrier for Intel in the not too
distant future, but Intel's announcement appears to smash straight
through it.
Intel have apparently made "a fully functional 70 megabit memory
chip with transistor switches measuring just 35 nanometers" - a
30% size reduction on existing devices. To put this into context,
Intel's line of desktop chips, like Pentium 4, are on a 90 to 180
nanometer base.
Reducing the size allows Intel to fit more transistors onto chips,
allowing them to build A) more powerful chips (CPUs) B) bigger memory
chips. The process could also allow Intel to take back the 'upper
hand' in the chip industry from AMD, who have enjoyed great successes
in recent months with their new line of chips.
The announcement could also keep "Moore’s Law" valid for
many more years to come. The law, created by Intel founder Gordon
Moore in the 60s, predicted that the number of transistors on chips
would double every two years.
