  • VSTS: Unit and Load Testing Demos
  • The Visual Studio 2005 Team Test Edition introduces a suite of new test tools. With this release, all tests including unit, Web, load and manual testing are first class citizens in Visual Studio and can be shared across the organization. The test results can be published to a database, you can generate trend and historical reports, compare different kinds of data, see how many and which bugs were found as a result of testing, and identify which bugs are not linked to a test that could help reproduce them.

  • VSTS: Source Code Control and Item Tracking Demo
  • Visual Studio Team Foundation, the server component of the Visual Studio 2005 Team System provides integrated source control, work item tracking, reporting, and custom policies that enable teams to efficiently manage change in your software development projects. These change management components are seamlessly integrated into the development environment thereby offering unobtrusive SCM process and team-specific requirements in the developer’s daily workflow.

  • VSTS 2005: Static Code Analysis Demos
  • The Visual Studio 2005 Team Developer Edition provides advanced development tools that enable teams to incorporate quality, early and often throughout the life cycle. The Static Code Analyzer helps developers detect coding and security related issues earlier in the development cycle thereby reducing the overall cost of fixing code defects. In addition, code analysis tools can be used as a part of the check-in policy for a nightly build process, enabling development teams to correct defects before code is checked into the source tree. Performance analysis tools in the Visual Studio Team Developer Edition enables developers to measure, evaluate, and target performance-related issues in their code, thereby identifying performance bottlenecks early on.

  • VSTS: Project Management Tools Demo
  • The Visual Studio 2005 Team System delivers many different project management tools. The Visual Studio Project Management Tools enable better planning, scheduling, collaboration, communication, reporting, and process control. These tools are integrated with the Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE), Microsoft Office, Windows SharePoint Services, and SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.

Over the past few years, Linux has been hitting Windows hard in different places and, blow by blow, won points against the OS behemoth. Good application software is an important selling point for any operating system, and good development tools are crucial to those writing application software. The leading desktop operating system, Microsoft Windows, has a strong integrated development environment (IDE) in Visual Studio .Net, while the upstart Linux platform's KDE environment has KDevelop. Let's pitch them against each other and see which ends up the last IDE standing.

  • The secret's out!

Hi! I'm Paul Yuknewicz, Program Manager for the team that designed and brought you Visual Basic Express and the general Express Edition line. I'm super excited to be onsite at the TechEd Europe keynote watching the crowd see Express and MSDN Product Feedback Center for the first time. I'm also proud to kick off the Express blog so that we can chat about all things Express. It's a great feeling to finally be able to talk about it with you!
Express Editions of Visual Studio are all about enabling communities of learning developers, hobbyists, and enthusiast to get started quickly creating cool .NET applications. This is done by providing a totally light weight product: from a 35-80 mb download, to a 5 minute install time, to a simplified and nimble IDE (developer environment). It's easy to get started using resources on the start page that help you build applications, learn how to program (if you're not a maven already), and connect to the community. You can see for yourself right now by downloading Express from here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/Express/).

  • Visual Studio and SQL Server Express Editions Announced

This morning at TechEd Europe, we announced the introduction of "Express" editions of a number of Visual Studio tools and SQL Server. The Express products are lightweight, easy to use, easy to learn tools for hobbyists, enthusiasts, and students who want to build dynamic Windows applications and Web sites. We also announced the release of Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1.

  • SQL Server Express - Initial thoughts (by yag)

Man, blogging is addictive. I'm supposed to be paying attention in this session... Anyway, wanted to note a few things about SQL Express because I haven't seen a lot about this online yet - though I expect that to change.
First - some of the capabilities:

    • Support for XCopy style deployment
    • No workload governor
    • Support for databases up to 4Gb in size
    • Support for up to 50 instances
    • Only supports 1 processor
    • Only supports 512 Mb of RAM
