GLAY'z Hardcore Porno Heading to Sony
PSP
06/06/2005 12:09 AM

glayz.jpgJapanese porno peddler GLAY'z is releasing five hardcore titles on the UMD optical disc format used by the Sony PSP. While the titles themselves are worth noting, including the gems "The Nurse of a Big Breast" and "Erotic Terrorist Beautiful Body," perhaps even more noteworthy are the rumors circulating that the UMD discs will be region free.

Currently, all UMD games are region free, while the movies are locked (a movie purchased in Japan, for instance, will not work on an American PSP). We hadn't realized that region-free UMD video discs were possible, but it's good to hear. The first five titles from GLAY'z will be available in July.

Beyond Hardcore Gamers: Kids, Women, the
Middle-Aged
06/10/2004 02:57 PM
There's no shortage of articles on the video game industry targeting non-gamers (usually women) as the next new market for games. But you'd think that the industry might want to avoid calling their new target market "bored housewives" even if it's in jest. Looking beyond the "bored housewives" market, though, the next target for video games may be therapeutic games for kids and the middle-aged. Really just a subset of educational games, therapeutic games can train people to overcome their fears, relax from stress, or teach kids to cope with their ADD -- and are probably a bit more lucrative than learning how to touchtype.

Marketing 101: Bad Product Names of the Year: HardCore Web Content Management And P.I.S.S. At least in the U.S. the term "hardcore" generally references either someone who is very focused / enthusiastic on an area or an explicit adult video. Or it's a punk band / punk music. So why do you want to name your content management system this? Take a look at the Google ads that come up when you query for it. [ Ads ] [ Product ] Oh and then I found the Perl Intranet System Services or as they call it "P.I.S.S.". Oh that's a good name. Yeah right. It might be a fun name but can you see the meeting? "Ah... Boss, I'd like to implement PISS for our Intranet. " Boss: "SMACK ! Off with your head! It's Microsoft SharePoint for us". Recommendation: BEFORE you ever name a product, google for the name and see what comes up. I don't mean to say that naming is easy -- it's not but why pick a deliberately bad name?
