It still beguiles me, and really did change the way I looked at corners forever. Not a claim that can be made by many diagrams." Link

Tec USB Speaker Tower, Cube 03/29/2005 04:22 AM

usb_tower.jpg imageA Japanese company called Tec has introduced a number of interesting products, and the first two we'll be covering are the "USB Speaker Tower W" and "USB Speaker Cube W." The former is a spiffy looking USB speaker/tower thingy with — get ready — integrated light. Something like this would look quite nice on a desk, presuming it actually puts out enough light.

The "USB Speaker Cube W" is a cube-shaped USB speaker (not subwoofer) with an integrated 4-port USB hub. On the front of the unit are various dials and buttons for controlling volume, bass and treble.

Tec's USB Speaker Tower W will run 4,500 yen, and Speaker Cube 6,825 yen.

Color Therapy Cube

Color Therapy Cube 06/30/2004 06:10 AM

hm105_main.jpg image'Could' and 'probably' are two of my favorite words. Without them, how could we have products like the Color Therapy Cube, an array of 24 colored squares that show patterns of color that, according to the manufacturers, "could also be beneficial." It's also possible that viewing certain patterns of soothing light could cause incontinence.

They sort of screw up with the lede, though. "Breakthrough color therapy is better than a power nap and a cup of coffee!" "Better at costing $70," is the part I think they probably left out.

Rubik's cube solver done in Lego

Rubik's cube solver done in Lego 05/17/2004 04:16 PM

CubeSolver1_sm

This robot solves the 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube®.

I started to think about this problem in about August of 2000. In Jan 2001 fellow Mindstorms forums user 'agiecco' announced his intention to work on a robotic solution and, simultaneously, I saw that Rubik's Cubes were on sale at www.target.com. So I bought a couple of cubes and started getting down to business...

I produced a 'late beta' version in mid-April 2001 that was a little clunky. The final version (presented here) is smooth and fairly reliable.

Amazing.

Gundam Haro Cube PC Sidekick 07/30/2004 11:03 PM

If you own a cube PC and like Gundam, you'll probably lose it for this new "case case." Obviously inspired by the show (well, obvious if you've seen it before), the "Haro" can fit entire cube PCs inside. But how could Haro be complete without annoying sidekick-like behavior? By way of remote controller, you can make Haro's limbs move, and he will say up to 12 different phrases such as "What the hell are you doing?" and "Hello?" and "Do you have a girlfriend yet, Stonecold?"
