A division of iPodLounge, LoadPod offers local service in areas including Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Houston, Indianapolis, South Carolina and Minneapolis. Box up your audio CDs and your iPod, and LoadPod will send someone to your home or office to pick them up. Within five days you'll get everything back, and your iPod will be fully loaded with your music, ripped in 128Kbps AAC format, the same format used by Apple's iTunes Music Store. The cost is $1.50 per CD with a minimum of 50 CDs, along with a $20 travel charge. The travel charge is waved if you have 100 CDs or more.

REAL Software Inc. on Wednesday announced the availability of resources to help developers conversant in Microsoft's Visual Basic development environment to migrate their products to Mac OS and Linux operating systems using REALbasic. The resources include a new white paper entitled "Porting Visual Basic Applications Cross-Platform to Linux and Mac OS X, A Guide for Visual Basic Developers," as well as a tool called VB Project Converter that handles the actual mechanics of the transition. HP has expanded its line of digital music players to include Apple's IPod Mini. The company said that the miniature player will be available from its Web site beginning Sunday, with the Apple IPod Mini from HP hitting major retailers shortly thereafter. HP's prices will be the same--$200 for a 4GB model, and $250 for a 6GB model.

HP's enormous retail distribution channel and emphasis on appealing to Windows-centric users may give the IPod Mini further penetration into the mass market. HP and Apple first announced a partnership more than a year ago, to bring IPods to HP's customers and make the devices available through HP's considerable retail distribution channels. HP also includes Apple's ITunes software pre-installed on all its PCs.

Many iPod users have seen "iPod Your BMW" television ads, which advertise the ability to connect your iPod or iPod mini to the stereo included with several late-model BMW vehicles. That's not the only way to directly connect an iPod to a car stereo, however, and one of the most hotly anticipated solutions is coming this September from aftermarket car audio manufacturer Alpine, the same company that designed and manufactured BMW's solution. The KCA-420i is a new interface box designed to work with Alpine car stereos that include "Ai-Net" command capabilities, and the solution actually offers more functionality than BMW's offering, including the ability to view artist, album and track information.

Tunewear announced on Friday its latest product for iPod: Tune max, a black leather case with Lithium Ion battery cells that provide up to 16 hours of additional power, depending on usage conditions. It features an on/off switch that allows you to dictate when you want it to supply power to your iPod, four LED lights that indicate how much juice it has left and a belt clip. In addition, Tunemax offers a USB port for syncing an iPod with your Mac, and an included mini-round-pin-to-FireWire cable can charge Tunemax from the computer's FireWire port. It's compatible with all iPods, although a sleeve such as Tunewear's Icewear is required to make an iPod mini fit snugly in Tunemax. Pricing was not announced, although Tunewear will display Tunemax at nest week's Apple Expo 2004 in Paris.
