Nike MP3Run with Bluetooth Pedometer

Nike MP3Run with Bluetooth Pedometer 05/24/2004 06:06 AM

David Carnoy (he of tech journalism's Worst Editor Photograph) previews the Nike MP3Run, a new flash-memory player (with a measly 256MB of storage) that stands out by incorporating a separate shoe-mounted Bluetooth pedometer to accurately track your stride. As you...

This is interesting: Blueserker noticed a pulled listing on Amazon for a Nike-branded 1.5GB MP3 player with Bluetooth Headphones, manufactured by Philips. Oregon Pedometer with Alarm

Oregon Pedometer with Alarm 09/24/2004 11:46 PM

ipedometer_with_panic_alar.jpg imageThe girls over at Shiny Shiny point out this great new gizmo from Oregon, a pedometer with a built-in panic alarm. If next you're out jogging and can't outpace that Olympic-sprinter-cum-homo-mugger, a push of the panic button will cause an ear-piercing 120dB alarm to blare forth, hopefully scaring the attacker away before you do permanent damage to your taut, muscular ears.

Mobile phone with pedometer built in?

Mobile phone with pedometer built in? 04/07/2005 06:10 PM

Lisa (skinny), Alex (husky), Sammy (skinny), and I (still trying to get down to 180 for flying the R22 helicopter) were walking today around Harvard Square and wondering why pedometers weren't built into cell phones.  A Web search upon returning home revealed just one such phone and it was available only in Japan back in 2003(http://walking.about.co m/b/a/036931.htm).  As our nation gets fatter and we don't even have to get off the couch to answer the phone, wouldn't this be a natural addition to the one electronic gadget that almost everyone carries?

Nike Made-to-Order Shoes 06/17/2005 03:45 PM

Mass customization: Nike has a store in Manhattan that makes custom shoes. You have to be invited to get an appointment there.

It's part store and part studio, where customers go to design their own sneakers. They choose between materials, colors and patterns to create unique footwear matching their own stylish sensibilities.

Once the creation is complete, specs get sent electronically to a manufacturing facility. Three weeks later, sneakers arrive by mail at the customer's house.

Stand Up, Speak Up -- Against Racism (and for Nike) A new campaign against the ugly, very present problem of racism in the game of soccer, with soccer stars like Thierry Henry and Rio Ferdinand. An elegant (if more than a bit tame and unimaginative) new ad by Wieden+Kennedy. The campaign aims to encourage fans to wear interlocked black-and-white wristbands as a symbol of their stand against racism, which can be bought for €2, or £1.50 in the UK.
