After months of work by the teams at Digital Garage and Technorati, we are happy to launch the Technorati Japan beta site. I noticed that some of the Japanese bloggers had already discovered our alpha site and some of the the feedback from the blogs have been incorporated into the new version that we launched today. Check out the Japanese news talk, book talk, Japanese top 100 and other features and let us know what you think.

We are still working on finding all of the bugs and figuring out exactly what the Japanese blogging community would find the most useful so your feedback and comments would be greatly appreciated. Microsoft have drawn to a close on one of the largest and most public beta programs in its history. The final result, MSN Messenger 7, was released officially yesterday, and offers several improvements over previous versions.

In a message of thanks to beta testers and to promote one of the new services, Microsoft are giving away a variety of Winks and Dynamic Display Pictures through its partner, BlueMountain. In an email sent to testers yesterday, Microsoft wrote "We want to take this moment to say a huge THANK YOU for participating in the Beta program. It is because of your help that we're confident customers will love this version of Messenger!". The team also gave out instructions on how to claim the free content (see "read more" for instructions), and also announced that they would be sending out a free Logitech web cam to each beta tester.

Microsoft's efforts in the MSN Messenger department, although generous, are undoubtedly self-serving. With more users and massive growth, Microsoft hope the MSN platform (Messenger, Hotmail, Spaces) will generate large revenues from advertising. Microsoft claim that the MSN Messenger network carries over 2.5 Billion messages a day, and sees 155 million users each month.

With Windows 2003 SP1 out the door, Microsoft is continuing its push with its latest Server OS. Plans are already underway to expand is features.

According to our sources Microsoft has sent out beta invitations to participate in the upcoming "R2" Beta 2 program. Apparently this release will be built on the Windows Server 2003 SP1 platform and adds optionally-installable components that their customers have requested. The beta is set to begin later this month and stretch through to Q4 2005
