I did an interview
for NPR's summer reading series where we are supposed to talk
about books to read over the summer. I ended up talking mostly about
blogs. ;-) It's about a month old.
What do YOU recommend we read this summer?

Political Human Sacrifice, the summer

Reality shows meet real politics as radio talk show
hosts
John and Ken have
chosen Republican
David Dreier
and Democrat
Joe Baca as
their
Political Human Sacrifices of 2004. Dreier is the
chairman of the House Rules Committee who
wiel
ds tremendous power. But here in Southern California, Dreier is
under fire for his
pro-outsourcing and
pro-illegal immigration stands.
With Dreier's winning vote margin being
45,000,
can one radio talk show
beat the pundits and upset an entrenched
incumbent? The pair will be campaigning against Dreier and Baca every
day until the general election. The talk hosts might be getting a
little help from, of all people,
Larry Flynt's Hustler
Magazine, who is in the process of working on a story that will
"out" Congressman Dreier (as first reported by
the blog which was
previously discussed
here). Dreier's
challenger must be
overjoyed.

Summer is here
04/20/2004 11:15 AMWell, today it has been 27 degrees warm, and I have been bitten by the
first mosquito of the summer. Yay. *scratch*
Actually, to continue the theme of relaxation: the Japanese have this
wonderful invention called furoo, the hot bath. It feels
scalding at first, but slowly you are overcome by this blissful
drowsiness; much like in a sauna. They are in many ways similar in
culture and purpose, and mostly they both just feel incredibly good in
a country where it's actually bloody cold most of the time.
(Sorry, brain calls timeout. I was supposed to write more, but it
refuses to work anymore, citing overtime legislation. Sorry.)

The Summer ’04 Look
06/09/2004 06:47 PMHerewith a new look for
ongoing. Smaller,
sleeker,
chic-er, suitable for those who run their browsers
less than 800 pixels wide (but why would you want to do that?), the
content column may get uncomfortably bulgy in Internet Explorer, but
that’s only about half the visitors here and after all
there is a
solution. I feel some angst because of my unreconstructed white
background, all my coolio ace-pro designer heroes have advanced boldly
into exquisitely-pale pastels in one delicate flavor or another. Bah,
less is more. A request; take a look at the Serif style, it’s how I
look at this thing and it’s now the default for first-time visitors.
