WiebeTech LLC on Tuesday introduced the DuoGB800, a new external hard disk enclosure that mounts two drive mechanisms inside a single enclosure. Unlike the original DuoGB, which supported FireWire 400 only, this model is equipped with dual FireWire 800 (downwardly compatible with FireWire 400) and USB 2.0 interfaces. WiebeTech offers a do-it-yourself model without any drives for US$179.95 or pre-configured 240GB - 500GB versions ranging from $329.95 to $619.95 depending on capacity. WiebeTech will begin shipping the new drive on May 27, 2004.

Storage peripheral maker WiebeTech LLC on Wednesday announced that it is making available hard disk drives that are pre-formatted and ready for installation in laptop computers and desktop computers. WiebeTech, which makes products for both Macs and PCs, is offering the preformatted drives in the customer's choice of HFS+, NTFS and FAT32 formats. Drives are available in notebook, desktop IDE and Serial ATA (SATA) configurations, with prices ranging from US$114.95 to $539.95 depending on capacity. Capacities range from 40 to 400GB.

Additionally, the company noted that it has reduced prices on its G5Jam, an internal storage expansion system for the Power Mac G5. A 1.6TB system now costs $2,999.95, down $500. The basic driveless G5Jam system costs $399.95.
