05/21/2004 12:56 PMThis all makes sense on the surface, but then I recalled something I
was told more than 20 years ago by a much younger Steve Jobs. Back
then Apple had three divisions -- Apple II, Lisa, and Macintosh. Why
have separate divisions? "Because it's easier to shut one down," said
Steve. By Robert X. Cringely, PBS (via MyAppleMenu)

executive reorganization at Novell. Evidently no one lost their job -
quite a difference from previous re-orgs - but a number of folks lost
“clout,” as four distinct product groups were merged into two, and
two of the product group heads were elevated in status while the other
two moved down in the pecking order.

report stating that a new iPod division had been set up at the
company, splitting the Macintosh and iPod hardware segments. While

report by Morgan Stanley analyst Rebecca Runkle
has determined that Apple's iPod digital music player has inspired
brand switching away from the PC to Macs. In her report, Runkle wrote
that the conversation rate among owners of the iPod was approximately
20 percent with the possibility of gaining another 5 percent in the
near future; creating what is referred to as an iPod "halo effect" on
purchase behavior. A survey that measured the attitude of iPod users
versus a control group of non-users found that 43 percent would
consider purchasing a Mac as their next computer compared with 15
percent in the control group.
