A bad idea

A bad idea 08/31/2004 04:59 PM
Here's a site that's trying to "use up" the Republican's virtual space by reloading "several Republican websites" automatically every 60 seconds. See, if we all leave the protest page up in our browser, we'll show them Republican bastards ... well, I'm really not sure what we'll show them. I'm confused enough about this that I am only reluctantly posting the protest page's url: http://users.drew.edu/clotito/protest_rnc.htm. Maybe you can explain to me if this page is: 1. A sincere but misguided attempt to make a point no one understands through a protest that no one will notice 2. A devious attempt to...

Idea a Day - Where Ideas are Free
http://www.idea-a-day.com/

Idea a Day will publish an original idea every day for the rest of time. The ideas published will be free of copyright, however valuable they may be. They are there to be read, to be enjoyed, to be exploited. Whatever. The project represents a completely fresh approach to the handling of ideas and intellectual property. This is not a get rich quick scheme. There are no plans to float, no advertisers or sponsors lined up. idea-a-day.com exists because it can. Because it will be fascinating to see what happens when these ideas are made available to the world.

The national oil reserve should be converted into an instrument of market stabilization.  Currently, the US maintains reserves in place for times of war or severe supply disruption.  The US reserves should be refocused to become a service that sells oil to make up for any political/guerrilla induced production shortfalls.  This would require a much larger reserve (1 billion barrels is a target).  If Iraqi guerrillas reduce Iraq's production by 1 m barrels, the US should sell oil to make up the shortfall.  If Venezuela stops production due to political turmoil, replace their 2.5 m barrels a day.  The net benefit to the world from this over the last month?  ~$2-3 billion.

ObjectSpaces: What's the big idea? 03/06/2004 02:03 AM
Should your data become objects or your objects become data? That’s the debate. If you build apps focused around objects and just want those suckers persisted then you want your objects to become data. If you’ve got a database and you are building apps around that data using an object-oriented language you probably want your data to become objects. Which is more prevalent, I don’t know, probably the latter.
