'Day After Tomorrow' Ice Age Impossible

'Day After Tomorrow' Ice Age Impossible 06/01/2004 06:34 PM
“In the new movie The Day After Tomorrow, abrupt climate change plunges the planet into total chaos. As tornadoes rip through Hollywood landmarks and grapefruit-size hail pounds Tokyo, New York City turns into an icy wasteland—all in a matter of days. It may just be a high-octane summer blockbuster, but environmentalists hope The Day After Tomorrow will serve as a wake-up call about global climate change.”

washingtonpost.com - You'd better hope your computer doesn't break down today. There's a good bet nobody will be around to fix it. That's because every self-respecting geek with $10 and a pulse will be queuing up to see "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," the slick new live-action blockbuster that forgoes sets and locations in favor of purely computer-generated backdrops.

Windows XP users try their best to
simulate Mac OS X
05/02/2004 10:32 PM
Windows XP users have serious cases of Mac OS X lust. Trying to simulate Mac OS X on Windows XP is turning into quite the hobby lately. While Microsoft is taking its own sweet time (years) to come up with a version of Windows (Longhorn) that tries to look and work like Apple's Mac OS X, Windows XP users are taking matters into their own hands while they wait and wait, then wait some more. "Look closely, and you'll see that its creator has done a very good job; although the machine is running Windows XP, the interface is almost indistinguishable from an OS X machine," Leander Kahney writes for Wired News. In the screenshots included in the Wired article, "notice the dock, desktop background, menus, system font and icons for applications and folders. Even the keyboard shortcuts belong to the Mac OS X." Kahney writes, "The system belongs to Kurt871, who won the latest monthly screenshot contest at AquaXP, a site devoted to turning XP boxes into faux Macs. AquaXP has 9,000 members. The site is named after Apple Computer's distinctive Aqua Mac OS X interface. A similar site, Aqua-Soft.org, has 16,000 members. And there are a dozen or more sites like them, according to the links collected at Iceman's Emulation Page."

When is 'The Matrix'?

When is 'The Matrix'? 11/05/2003 04:50 PM
We all know the answer to the question, "What is the Matrix?" but with the release of Matrix Revolutions, some people are speculating on the question "When is the Matrix?". Using dates found or hinted at in all three movies and the Animatrix short films, a complete timeline has been pieced together. From the first humanoid robots sometime after 2010, to their revolt and eventual victory over the armies of man in 2098, the timeline tells the whole story of AI and robots vs man.

JOEL JOHNSON -- Apparently there is a television show called 'The Apprentice.' On this show--if it indeed exists, for I am so over TV--they have shown a sexy all-in-one computer that is integrated into a 30" LCD wide-screen monitor, which I4U has identified as the Tek Panel 300. From the...

Dyson DC15 'The Ball' 03/14/2005 06:02 PM

dyson_ball.jpgUK suck whiz James Dyson has announced The Ball, a new vaccuum cleaner designed about what looks like a yellow plastic volleyball. The idea of the DC15 The Ball is to speed up cleaning by "getting rid of teh forwards/backwards motion," replacing it with a much more effecient 'forward to the left/backwards to the right' motion (or something). Since it's a Dyson, it'll be extremely expense, very effective, and look right at home taped to the underside of your X-Wing.
