Rod Brooks Predicts the Future of Robots

Rod Brooks Predicts the Future of Robots 04/13/2005 11:04 PM
A Cornell Daily Sun article contains Rodney Brooks latest predictions about the future of robotics. As robots grow more like Humans, Brooks predicts some people will find it hard to accept the loss of "specialness" that humans believe they have. He likens it to learning to accept the fact that the Earth wasn't the center of the Universe, that humans and animals evolved from common ancesters, or that humans have fewer genes than a potato. "It may be hard, he explained, for humans to come to grips with machines that may equal or surpass their own capabilities. Few people want to admit that their emotions can exist within a machine." He even predicts legislation against machine that are able to feel emotion.
