WordPress Search, Powered by Yahoo!
06/22/2005 02:06 AMLast week Matt Mullenweg asked me a few questions about the Yahoo! Web
Search API and Yahoo! Site Search. It turned out that he was looking
for a better way to provide search for WordPress.org and thought we
had just what he needed. A few days later, I find out that he was
right. In New WP.org Search, he writes about implementing the new
search support: I went to the site to see how much of a pain it

03/17/2005 03:42 AMThere are almost as many blogging tools out there as there are
bloggers. In addition to closed source vendors such as Movable Type
and Blogger, big players are entering the field, including Microsoft
with its MSN Spaces offering and the lesser-known .Text ASP.net
toolkit. But even among both these, and the vast array of open source
blogging tools, Wordpress rises above the others for being open source
as it should be done.
FOAF for WordPress
FOAF for WordPress
05/21/2004 04:04 AMThis is from Chris Schmidt....
Word press has been getting a lot of word in the press about being
"the" replacement package for MT. However, by default, there's no FOAF
input or output, and that's never a good thing.
So, I present to those of you who may be switching, a presentable
version of FOAF for WordPress. Basic, as it only spits out the values
that you can set in wp-admin: admittedly minimal. However, it is
something. Anyway, I figured some of you might be switching over -
mortenf, specifically, asked for some help on the topic.
So,
http://crschmidt.net/w
phack/profile2.txt is how to set up a
profile page - and FOAF - in your WordPress blog. I'll be
working with the wordpress developers to clean this up and get it into
the Core version of wordpress, but not until after the 1.2 release, as
they've got enough on their hands as is.

To me, what
Matt
did with WordPress is, without a doubt, a shameful act.
He had, in effect, pressed WordPress
users into becoming unwitting accomplices in google
bombing for financial gain using hidden content.
This is what Matt
had to say about it:
The content in /articles is essentially advertising by a third
party that we host
for a flat fee. I'm not sure if we're going to continue it much
longer, but we're
committed to this month at least, it was basically an experiment.
However around the
beginning of Feburary donations were going down as expenses were
ramping up, so it
seemed like a good way to cover everything. The adsense on those
pages is not ours
and I have no idea what they get on it, we just get a flat fee. The
money is used
just like donations but more specifically it's been going to the
business/trademark
expenses so it's not entirely out of my pocket anymore.
Matt, stop babbling poor excuses like a teenager who just crashed
his dad's car into
a ditch. No excuses can be made for that kind of shenanigan
except a sincere
admission of complete lapse in judgement.

MT Skin Developers moved to Wordpress
MT Skin Developers moved to Wordpress
06/20/2004 05:14 AMI have been helping my daughter get her weblog going and we opted
to purchase her a premade skin for her site. We spent several hours
going through different developers that design for MT. We found a nice
skin that fit her personality and looked like it would be the cat's
meow.
I paid for the skin and asked that it be optimized for MT3, not
only was it not optimized for MT3 it did not work with MT 2.6 after
being assured it would be MT3 ready. The e-mail I got with the
attachment did not leave me feeling warm and fuzzy in the first place
explaining that the developer was now running Wordpress and was no
longer familiar with MT.
Why in the hell is she selling or advertising Movable Type skins
then? I would have not done business with her in the first place if
her website had indicated that she had moved on.
We will see if she cleans up the code and if she doesn't then I
will yack her name and company up.

Thoughts on The Future of WordPress and
MovableType
03/24/2005 05:06 AMThere more I look at the blogging "market" these days, I see things
falling into fairly well defined places--at least in my head. There is
a already a well defined split between the hosted services that offer
blogging capabilities (Blogger, TypePad, Y! 360, LiveJournal, etc) and
the "host it yourself" model. That second group is the ecosystem that
MovableType and WordPress currently dominate and I think they'll
continue to do so. If you further divide that into
"corporate/enterprise" and "personal/non-profit"...

Well, they're mostly back. It took a while to fix, but they do show
up. Sometimes there's a delay, but that's by design (sort of). I'm
very, very close to starting a migration to WordPress but may not get
to that until sometime in July, based on my schedule for the next few
weeks. MovableType has treated me well for several years now, but the
