oPod case, a ruggedized carrying case for the iPod that its maker says is
water-resistant, crushproof and can protect the iPod when dropped.
It's a 5 x 3 x 1 inch case made of polycarbonate resin that features a
clear membrane cover to protect the screen, touch buttons and touch
wheel. The oPod costs US$49.95.

I have no idea if this water-proof case for the Sony PSP will
actually ever be mass-produced, but it's not entirely as stupid as it
might at first seem. There's something to be said for a hard case that
lets you fire up and play for a few minutes without ever taking it
out. That said, I bet the D-pad is horribly frustrating through
another layer of abstracting plastic. Mostly, it just pleases me that
someone made it—even if it's never actually for sale.

notable in and of itself, but they've made some design changes that I
hope to see applied across the product line. Not only is the new case
clear (letting you show off your colors), but it incorporates a new
headphone jack design that allows you to use any headphone you like
via a pass-through. Not only that, but the new design means that the
Otter Box for the iPod mini is more than just 'water
resistant'—it can now survive plunges into water up to 15 feet
in depth. All that protection isn't cheap, though, at $50, so make
sure it fits your x-trem lifestyle.

The Dunhill cigarette company has made a cigarette-case-style case for
the iPod, which, in classinc Dunhill hyperbole, they describe as
"ergonomic and luxurious." One thing I've learned since moving to the
UK: anytime something is described as "luxurious" (i.e. "Luxury hot
cocoa") it is anything but. Nevertheless, the Dunhill cases look
pretty rad.

The god damned hipsters have struck again
-- and this time, it's portable. The Retropod is a, uhm, retrofitting
of older Sony "Sports Walkmans" that is probably the very least
functional case for iPods I've ever seen. All you get is a headphone
out, and you have to open up the case to get to the controls. Even the
inline remote won't work, because of the way the headphone extender
works. But hey, their models are cute and that goes a long way, even
if I can smell the reek of Pabst right through the JPEG.
Now if the only option they offered were the $100 version, I'd have
to throw them back out on the curb where they mate and sleep, but
since they also have a $20 DIY version (Walkman not included), we'll
let it slide for now.

max, a black leather case with Lithium Ion battery cells that
provide up to 16 hours of additional power, depending on usage
conditions. It features an on/off switch that allows you to dictate
when you want it to supply power to your iPod, four LED lights that
indicate how much juice it has left and a belt clip. In addition,
Tunemax offers a USB port for syncing an iPod with your Mac, and an
included mini-round-pin-to-FireWire cable can charge Tunemax from the
computer's FireWire port. It's compatible with all iPods, although a
sleeve such as Tunewear's Icewear is required to make an iPod mini fit
snugly in Tunemax. Pricing was not announced, although Tunewear will
