Symantec Corp. on Thursday announced plans to release a Web-based console to help system managers and network administrators to centrally administer Mac clients using Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh 9.0. The Web console -- to be made available specifically to corporate and enterprise licensees of Norton AntiVirus software -- will allow administrators to distribute virus definitions and product updates on demand, install the Norton AntiVirus software itself, lock-down settings, push configuration changes, and maintain client data in a MySQL database. Symantec plans to release the Web console in November; customers who have Symantec's Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.x, Enterprise Edition 8.x and Corporate Edition 9.0 will receive information on how to get the software.

Three Vital FXCop Rules

Three Vital FXCop Rules 09/10/2004 01:57 AM
In the June 2004 installment of the Bugslayer column, I introduced the amazing FxCop, which analyzes your .NET assemblies for errors and problems based on code that violates the .NET Design Guidelines. This month I'll continue my discussion of building useful and advanced rules that will ensure you're writing the best .NET code possible. I'll assume that you've used FxCop extensively and that you've read the June 2004 Bugslayer column so that you have the basics of rule development under your belt. For this column, I'm going to dive deeper into building rules, concentrating on those that work directly with the Microsoft® intermediate language (MSIL) instructions in your methods. But first, I think it's best to describe the three rules I developed so you can follow what I did to build them.

Andre Norton, RIP

Andre Norton, RIP 03/19/2005 03:02 AM
Cory Doctorow: Andre Norton, a talented, ground-breaking science fiction writer, has died.
Norton requested before her death that she not have a funeral service, but instead asked to be cremated along with a copy of her first and last novels.

Born Alice Mary Norton on February 17, 1912, in Cleveland, she wrote more than 130 books in many genres during her career of nearly 70 years. She used a pen name -- which she made her legal name in 1934 -- because she expected to be writing mostly for young boys and thought a male name would help sales.

Xur writes, "Her books span generations and genres, and Witch world is possibly her most famous creation. The High Hallack Genre Writers' Research Library - a project of Ms. Norton's lifetime has officially opened on 28th February 1999."
