The title of my second panel at the upcoming

Ewald (Mindreef), Edwin Khodabakchian (Oracle), John Shewchuk
(Microsoft), and Annrai O'Toole (Cape Clear). (On May 17, it'll be
Microsoft's Dino Chiesa instead of John Shewchuk.) Here are a few
examples of the kinds of questions I'd like this panel to address:

The Government Is Even Inefficient In
Building Search Engines
05/17/2004 02:53 PMA few weeks ago we wrote about how Medicare was now letting recipients
compari
son shop for pharmacies online. The system would let them put in
info about where they were and what drugs they had been prescribed and
get info. When it launched, there we a bunch of problems as people
noticed that the supposed "discount" they got was no discount at all.
Meanwhile, a new article points out that the way they handle the user
interface for this comparison shopping engine
probably makes it useless to many users. Users have
to go through a series of pages answering unnecessary questions before
they can actually search - and the results are presented in a complex
and difficult to read grid. The writer suggests that they take a
lesson from the travel booking websites like Orbitz or Travelocity,
and set up a quick form for search and easy to read, easy to
understand results. The spokesperson from Medicare had a typical
government response, instead, saying that if they can't understand the
site they should just call Medicare to get the info. Of course, it
sounds like there are a lot of people who can't navigate the site and
are doing just that, because the spokesperson immediately pointed out
that people should call in the evenings since the phonelines are
overwhelmed right now.

Nashville Screenwriters Conference
06/09/2004 04:35 AMBridging the distance between the Hollywood film industry and the best
new screenwriters across the country, the Nashville Screenwriters
Conference announces its first National Screenplay Showdown. After six
years of presenting the best writers and filmmakers in the
entertainment industry at the Nashville Screenwriters Conference, the
organization has teamed up with Ed Rugoff from the prestigious
Chesterfield Writer’s Film Project to give aspiring screenwriters an
opportunity to take their work west – all the way to Hollywood. The
Showdown evaluates screenplays solely on the basis of story-telling
ability, meaning that all genres have the same chance of winning. The
winning screenplay writers will find themselves in front of the most
prestigious literary agencies and management companies in
consideration for representation. [PRWEB Jun 9, 2004]
