The best online poker websites have become the best training grounds for the world's top poker players and future poker stars. 2003 World Series Of Poker Champion Chris Moneymaker shocked the Las Vegas establishment and world with his domination of the 2003 ESPN WSOP Championships at Binion's Horseshoe Casino. Yet his Cinderella story was anything but a rags to riches tale. Chris Moneymaker honed his skills and paid his dues like so many other modern day players that participate daily in the best online poker tournaments, satellite competitions and world wide poker websites. http://www.MonteCarloGrandResort.com [PRWEB Jul 21, 2004]

A 20-year IT consulting veteran and author of "The Unix Guide to Defenestration" offers the second in a series of four articles that examine the state of computing as he imagines it will be five years from now. Last week's article was on Microsoft's vision for its future software. This week, he looks at where the Unix and open source alternative is likely to go and, next week, at the hardware both groups can expect to have available to run their software. The last of the series will look at the impact these changes are likely to have on the IT industry itself.

The future of online community

The future of online community 03/13/2003 10:15 AM
I used to think I knew what online community was all about. I thought it had something to do with discussion forums, like the one here at InfoWorld I've recently tried to colonize. Having spent too many years, keystrokes, and brain cells debating the pros and cons of various discussion technologies, I'll just cut to the chase. This WebX thing is not working for me. It's not simply that the software mangles URLs, doesn't preview messages, and handles topics and threads in a way I find awkward. What's broken, for me, is the idea that an online community is a place where people gather, and a centralized repository of the discussions held in that place. In that model, I've concluded, the costs are just too high. It's expensiv e to join. It's expensive to participate, because interactive discussion demands a lot of attention. And it's expensive to leave, because the repository has your data, and may or may not (probably won't) preserve its linkable namespace or hand the data back to you in a reasonable form. ...
