We all know that there are many, many version of Windows being used around the world that are not legit. But the worst thing you could do is refuse to update security holes or fixes because they are not legit. That’s what Microsoft tends to do later this year. All I can say is that anyone using a pirated Windows version needs to have the same security updates as everyone else or we will all suffer from more trojans, viruses, DOS attacks and slow downs on the internet. Making Microsoft a niche player

Making Microsoft a niche player 08/30/2004 06:46 AM
Novell engineer and manager Allison Singh recently predicted in an Africa-based tectonic magazine article that Windows will become a niche operating system, replaced by Linux as the new standard. A gestalt of recent trends, events, and stories should tell you that this prediction is right on the money. A gestalt, by the way, is a perception or conclusion that goes beyond the sum of its parts. Here are three of the many parts that comprise the gestalt.

Microsoft Making Encarta Into Wikicarta?
Not Quite

Microsoft Making Encarta Into Wikicarta?
Not Quite
04/18/2005 06:48 PM
Microsoft's Encarta encyclopedia project often seems to be forgotten in all of the various arguments over Wikipedia, but it appears that they're feeling a bit of the Wikipedia-induced heat. They're going to now make it easier for people to suggest changes to Encarta entries, if they feel they're wrong. Of course, those changes will still be reviewed by an editor, so it's not really wiki-like at all -- but that won't stop the press from making the connection. It's just that Encarta is making the "feedback" functionality a little more prominent and hoping that this allows them to catch some of the Wikipedia hype wave.

Microsoft rumored to be making major
Podcasting announcement at Gnomedex
06/06/2005 12:01 AM

A little bird told me tonight that their is major rumors being spread by the Microsoft elite that their will be a major podcast related announcement by Microsoft and maybe even Bill Gates himself at Gnomedex.

Keep the tips coming people and if this one proves to be true, I am going to be in the Gnomedex house watching it go down live. I may even work a deal with some of TechPodcasts.com partners to make that event a live one!

This is going to be a great event and I even hear Google is putting on a party so if all goes well we will get to put a microphone in front of some important people. Plus I am taking bunch of books to give away. If your going to be at Gnomedex lets hook up the night before as I fly in the day before the event kicks off.

Todd..

SBC Pulls Out the Stops in Wi-Fi Deals

SBC Pulls Out the Stops in Wi-Fi Deals 07/20/2004 02:21 PM
SBC Communications announced a host of Wi-Fi partnerships and deals today to extend the reach of its network and maximize traffic passing across locations they operate: SBC will resell access to its FreedomLink network, which will include 300 Caribou Coffee stores (Midwest and South-central and Southeast coast) as well as the thousands of The UPS Store locations, to iPass, GoRemote, and Syniverse. This reselling agreement will be live by the end of 2004. SBC FreedomLink subscribers will have access to Concourse Communications hotspots (JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Detroit, and Minneapolis/St. Paul), Telmex (400 Mexican locations), and Wise Technologies (an array of retail and airport venues). Access to those locations won't be included in a monthly fee from SBC, but will cost just $4 per day, which is often less than half the cost of the retail prices for those venues. This roaming arrangement will also be in place before year's end. In the same press release, SBC notes that it is selling 3,000 home Wi-Fi gateways each day to SBC Yahoo! DSL customers. They reiterated that later this year, FreedomLink will be offered to its DSL subscribers at a "significant discount." SBC is deploying several tactics at once here, increasing the size of its self-operated network to make the total number of hotspots more appealing to subscribers while also making the network more appealing to resellers. Providing discounted access to other hotspot network is useful for business travelers who may have no compunction about paying $4 a few times a month for airport access. By emphasizing the scale of home Wi-Fi adoption and its coming discounted plan for its millions of DSL subscribers, SBC also makes the network more appealing to new venues considering which hotspot operator to work with....
