Atom autodiscovery test suite

Atom autodiscovery test suite 12/20/2003 04:56 PM

Mark Pilgrim has released the Atom autodiscovery test suite, comprising 148 tests:

When we say that Atom is going to have better specs, validators, and conformance tests than anything you’ve ever seen before, this is what we’re talking about.

Mark's atomautodiscovery.py (based on Python's sgmllib module) passes all of the tests using a surprisingly small amount of actual code. The neatest thing about the test suite is that each test provides a <link rel="next" ... attribute pointing to the next test in the suite. atomautodiscovery.py uses these links in its test() function to run through every test in the suite, meaning that new tests can be added without modifying the test execution code.

My March 21 entry about upcoming.org turned out to be an odd juxtaposition because, on the same day, a new events database called EVDB was announced and shown at PC Forum. It's due out shortly in public beta but I haven't seen it, so for now I only know what you can also learn from reading, among others: Dan Farber, Ross Mayfield, Om Malik, David Weinberger, and Paul Kedrosky (whose recent archive is missing this morning, yikes). The consensus seems to be that EVDB will be a Web-2.0-style, Wiki-style, RSS-friendly, Flickr-and-del.icio.us-like thingy. Sounds promising! I'll certainly check it out when it's public. ...

Stress Testing: Using Modular Stress
Test to Test Platforms and Components

Stress Testing: Using Modular Stress
Test to Test Platforms and Components
12/18/2003 12:58 AM
Modular Stress is a flexible system that performs several different types of stress testing. It is based on a set of test modules that each target individual features or components in a platform. The CETK includes a number of operating system (OS) stress modules that target major system components (for example, GWES, FileSys, Kernel, and so on). In addition, the user can create custom modules to target other platform components. The Modular Stress Test harness controls how these tests are run, that is, the sort of test environment that is desired, and collects data on system health throughout the course of a stress run.
