Traditional Korean Music

Traditional Korean Music 04/07/2005 03:24 AM

I enjoy all kinds of music but I particularly enjoy traditional korean music.  If you are interested in listening to some, the best album to get started with is the OST album for the Korean movie Sopyonje.  It starts with a bamboo flute instrumental titled Thousand Year-Old Crane.  The instrument is called daekoom, my favorite instrument, which sounds similar to shakuhachi although I think it's deeper and coarser in a satisfying way that sooths the aching inside walls of your heart.  Then it moves on to several pansori songs which to me sounds like a fusion of rap and opera.  I just love pansori!  The only problem is that the CD might be difficult to find outside Korea.

Traditional vi is derived from the 4BSD source and includes support for modern operating systems, 8-bit input, multi-byte character encodings like UTF-8, and features demanded by POSIX.2. It contains few additions beyond this, so it is of interest for those who look for a small but well-defined vi implementation close to that of most commercial Unix systems. It also has some features to cope with primitive terminals or slow connections.
Changes:
vi no longer dies with a segmentation fault if a line does not fit on the screen after an insertion. The 'p' vi command now works correctly if the buffer contains a partial line with multibyte characters. Traditional regular expressions that sometimes failed to operate correctly have now been fixed.

Web Based EDI Alternative to Traditional
EDI VANs
03/14/2005 05:57 PM
CovalentWorks continues to rapidly add clients who use their web based EDI service instead of choosing a traditional EDI VAN. Clients who have never used EDI before subscribe to CovalentWork's EDI solution because it is so much easier to use than buying their own software and signing up for complicated and expensive service from an EDI VAN. And users who have been with another EDI vendor for years are switching to CovalentWorks to reduce their expenses and have more responsive EDI service. [PRWEB Mar 12, 2005]

Rethinking Traditional Economics In An
Age Of Intellectual Property

Rethinking Traditional Economics In An
Age Of Intellectual Property
07/06/2004 03:00 PM
Andy Kessler, who likes nothing better than forcing people to rethink the status quo, has dropped in a submission about his latest Wall Street Journal op-ed piece explaining why economists who are worried about too many people being employed leading to inflation are living in a time before intellectual property economics became clear. Kessler argues that with intellectual property being our main output, traditional economics don't apply in the same way: "How much does it cost for another copy of Windows. Zilch. Stressed about prices? Take another Xanax, it costs almost nothing to make. Same for Lipitor. Their high costs go to fund FDA trials, not factories. How much does it cost to enable another Google search? Music download? Email? Phone call? Nanocents. The output gap of intellectual property is almost infinite. Full (and high wage) employment in research jobs is what we want." This is the very concept behind things like "increasing marginal returns" that show that intellectual property, when opened up frees up the economy to do more, not less. So, the more we can encourage that, the better off our economy is. Unfortunately, it's taking a while for economists to realize this -- and apparently those economists all read the Wall Street Journal. Kessler reports: "Hate mail running 2:1. A good sign!" Indeed.

Susan Mernit has some good ideas on how it might work. Example: Combine the NY Times or Washington Post with Technorati and Feedster. She asks:
"Why don't we see a major media outlet that will file lots of stories during the election find a way to work with Technorati or Feedster so they can have almost real-time links reflecting people's comments on--and links to--the stories--right on their web site?"
