Pixar's groovy non-cubicles 03/17/2005 03:55 AM
Xeni Jardin: AICN's Moriarty took a tour of Pixar, and marvels at the nesting habits of wild animators at home in their native environment:
He also led us through the section of the building where the animators actually work. Here’s where the Wonka factory comparison felt strongest. Instead of cubicles, each of the animators has a customized space. (...) A lot of the animators decided early on that they didn’t want cubicles, so instead, Pixar found these groovy little cottages that they bought for them. Walking through the animation department is like walking through a neighborhood for dwarves. Lots of little houses laid out along “streets,” each one with an address on the door.

Microsoft Unfolds Its Windows Server
Road Map
05/18/2004 01:31 PM
A Microsoft Corp. executive last week cleared up what had been a murky Windows Server plan, affirming release dates of 2005 for a product update code-named R2 and 2007 for the next major software release, known as Longhorn. Bob Muglia, senior vice president of Microsoft's Windows Server division, said the company wants to be consistent with the product's release cycle. Plans call for a major release of Windows Server roughly every four years and an incremental update two to two and a half years after each major release, he said. Muglia earlier this year told Computerworld only that Longhorn would emerge no sooner than 2006.

The Future is Now (or should be)

The Future is Now (or should be) 08/28/2004 10:27 PM
I have a weird philosophy on the future: Don't wait for the inevitable if it's something you want. Every time I hear someone say, "someday we'll be able to..." or "in a few years, it won't be unusual to..." I consider what they're suggesting will be commonplace. If it's something I also believe is is inevitable and worthwhile, I try to start doing it now rather than later. What's the point of waiting, really? I'm reminded of this all the...

PowerBook G5!? Unlikely to Appear in
the Near Future
02/05/2005 09:07 PM
CNET has posted an article highlighting various logical reasons for why the PowerBook G5 is still a pipe dream.
"...a G5 PowerBook would require compromises in size, weight and other aesthetics such as noise production. Apple, and likely most of its customers, wouldn't be willing to live with that."

Sorry guys, you'll just have to wait another year, or by an iMac G5 and an iLugger.
