Autodesk Inc. subsidiary Discreet announced Monday plans to support Apple's Final Cut Pro .XML-based interchange format in upcoming versions of its editing and visual effects systems. This means that editorial decisions made by users with Final Cut Pro will be directly transferable to Discreet's smoke and fire editing and finish systems, as well as its lustre digital grading and color correction system.

2003-11-03: The report and minutes have been published from the W3C Workshop on Binary Interchange of XML Information Item Sets held in Santa Clara, CA, USA on 24-26 September. All of the more than 40 position papers are publicly available. The workshop concluded that research is needed before W3C would produce any specifications in this area, and recommended that a Working Group be proposed to the W3C Membership. I'll be at the Gilban e Conference on Monday, where Jean Paoli, Tim Bray, and I will have a three-way discussion/debate on XML strategies for information interchange. In his b log entry about the session, Frank Gilbane refers to this entry in which I gathered my thoughts for the Boston edition of this conference back in November.
