Their cell phone solar charger can give a full charge in only two or three hours in direct sunlight. It uses a technology called Maximum Solar Power Tracking and is compatible with most cell phones: Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Siemens, Sony Ericsson and most 3G models. Right now, it is limited to cell phones, but expect it to support iPods and PDAs in the future.

Cellphone charger also disinfects 12/04/2003 08:22 PM
A Korean outfit has announced a cell-hone charger that also disinfects the handset. I need one of these for airport touchscreen check-in kiosks, which always seem to be covered in a thin film of Burger King and mucous.
According to the company, the germ-killing products are equipped with an airtight container and a special lid on top of the normal charger’s body to sterilize the digital gadgets during recharging.

tn_flexbats.jpg imageDouble A rechargeable batteries are by far the most commonly used, but there are definitely times when C-cell and D-cell batteries would be handy to have around. Rather than provide rechargeable cells in a variety of sizes, Sanyo's Family Battery Charger Kit comes with four AA batteries and a set a 'FlexBat' adapters, hollow plastic cylinders that act as spacers to allow you to use the rechargeable AAs inside C- or D-cell-sized spaces. Of course, the AA cells won't run as long as the larger cells would, but in a pinch it's a handy way to always have the size of battery you need available.

wigobyte_mvolt.jpgThis isn't so useful for most of us, since it uses a Korean-standard phone plug, but it's a neat idea all the same. The Mvolt-200 isn't just a USB memory stick—it doubles as a emergancy cell phone recharger. Manufacturer Wigobyte isn't making the Mvolt-200 yet, anyway, but is currently looking for distributers for which it can become an OEM.

iPod, iPod mini
08/13/2004 07:17 AM
Griffin Technology has introduced RoadTrip, a 3-in-1 device that provides an FM transmitter, charger and cradle for all dock-capable iPod and iPod mini MP3 players. The transmitter broadcasts your music on any FM frequency on your car stereo, with a backlit display that shows which frequency is in use, while the charger keeps your iPod's battery at full capacity. The RoadTrip plugs into any 12-volt outlet or cigarette lighter in your car and its transmitter unit can be removed and plugged into a USB port on your computer, enabling music broadcast from it to any nearby FM stereo. Griffin has left the top of the US$79.99 device open for use with other iPod accessories, which means RoadTrip isn't compatible with the 1G and 2G iPods that have FireWire ports on top.
