Apple late Friday issued an update for users of its pro software, releasing Pro Application Support 2.0. According to notes provided by Apple, the "update provides improvements for Apple's professional applications, and is strongly recommended for all users of Final Cut Pro, Cinema Tools, Compressor, LiveType, Soundtrack, and DVD Studio Pro. This update improves general user interface appearance and reliability and is required to receive future updates for these applications." The 2.6MB update is available via the Software Update control panel.

PGP Corp. announced on Tuesday the release of PGP Desktop 8.1, the latest edition of its digital security software that allows companies to exchange encrypted e-mail and files with business partners. The new version offers better support for Apple Mail and Novell GroupWise 6.5.1, compatibility with the new Cached Exchange Mode feature found in Outlook 2003, Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 validation of PGP's core encryption technology and more. This is a free upgrade for existing users. PGP Desktop is available in three variations -- Corporate, Workgroup and Personal -- that all require Mac OS X v10.3, with subscription pricing of US$135 per license for Corporate and $86 per license for Workgroup. Personal is available only with a perpetual license that costs $59. Perpetual licenses are also available for Corporate and Workgroup.
