the speedy chip used in Apple Computer Inc.'s high-end

its next-generation iMac, underscored the risks of relying on a
single supplier but won't hurt financial results in the short

Curry cures Alzheimer's?
Curry cures Alzheimer's?
01/01/2005 12:50 PMMark Frauenfelder:
The pigment that makes curry yellow, curcumin, does a better job at
treating Alzheimer's than the majority of drugs being tested.
(Interestingly, India has one of the lowest Alzheimer rates in the
world.)
The new UCLA-Veterans Affairs study involving genetically
altered mice suggests that curcumin, the yellow pigment in curry
spice, inhibits the accumulation of destructive beta amyloids in the
brains of Alzheimer's patients and also breaks up existing
plaques.

Crisis (Los Angeles Times)
09/14/2004 05:43 AMLos Angeles Times - WASHINGTON — Although the presidential
campaign has been dominated for months by Iraq and, more recently, the
candidates' military records, few issues matter more to voters —
or more profoundly divide President Bush and Sen. John F. Kerry
— than the plight of the U.S. healthcare system.

is only fair to warn others to be careful in case they are also
considering the upgrade.

Woes of Big Holidays
Woes of Big Holidays
12/27/2004 08:25 AM
Egad. One down, one more to go. I hate big holidays
because the big ones
are actually three in one: Blah Eve, Blah itself, and After-Blah
Sales Day.
On Blah Eve, my wife expects me to pay attention to her. That
means lots of
kisses and lip service. I wonder if the word Eve being the
name of the first
gal had something to do with this.
On the Blah Day, my wife expects me to pay attention to the
family. In modern
terms, this means doing far more TV watching than my usual 30
minutes a day.
The worst part is that TV programming really sucks on such
days. Radio is even
worse.
On the After-Blah Sales Day, my wife expects me to be
invisible. Actually she
is the one that does the disappearing act from dawn til dusk.
If I happen to
get up too early, I get the deathray look. This morning, I
got up just as she
was putting on her shoes to go out shopping. Oops.

longer have to worry about whether you use DVD-R/-RW or DVD+R/+RW. But

worse is that some are finicky about CD-RW media. This is supposed to
be easier?

Congestion Woes
10/29/2003 01:39 PMConcerns around the effects that too many users may have on Wi-Fi
networks seems to be the hot topic these days: This writer suggests a
somewhat unclear idea revolving around a "congestion charge" and
technology that will turn off clients that aren't being used. I just
don't think congestion is going to be that huge of a problem. It will
be in certain circumstances like at trade shows and possibly on a busy
street where every shop offers Wi-Fi. But otherwise I just don't
expect it to be debilitating....
