But classes ended today, and life returns tomorrow. Starting tomorrow for the balance of the week, Siva Vaidhyanathan will be guest blooging about his new book, The Anarchist in the Library. I'll be caught up by the weekend, and back with good news next week. Sorry for the delay. Dear author(s),
thank you for submitting your paper entitled "User-initiated context switching using NFC" to the IJCAI-Workshop Modeling and Retrieval of Context (MRC2005). We are pleased to inform you that your paper has been accepted as FULL PAPER for publication and presentation. PingPing 02/01/2005 08:35 PM Still here...just busy and temporarily short of inspirational juice to write anything worthwhile. Google in our every pingGoogle in our every ping 04/09/2004 03:56 PM I noticed a little something while sitting next to a felow hax0r at the local coffee shop yesterday that made me realize just how deeply The Google had penetrated day-to-day *nixing. A few years back the "international greeting" (as I called it) for checking whether or not you were online and with DNS was to type: ping yahoo.com. Now, it seems--I've noticed this switch
in myself and others, but can't be sure just when it happened--this
is: ping google.com.
It's not, mind you, that yahoo.com has become unreachable or unstable;
just the Google has so come to represent the very essence of stability
and reachability that it's made its way to our every ping.
I used to joke in my sysadmin days (I'm in recovery now) that the
default for ping without argument should be ping
yahoo.com. Now make that ping google.com.

In my copious free (read: should be sleeping) time I threw together a
useful little Blosxom plugin to ping
weblogs.com the first time my
site is hit following a new weblog entry.
I intend to include most of the plugins I've mentioned thus far --

I can't really figure out what's going on here -- Japanese people
creating an "experiment" involving 320,000 ping-pong balls and a ski
jump. Whatever the science, it sure is photogenic.

Ping Tunnel 0.60 (Default branch)Ping Tunnel 0.60 (Default branch) 04/15/2005 09:18 AM Ping Tunnel is a tool for reliably tunneling TCP connections over ICMP echo request and reply packets (commonly known as ping requests and replies). It is useful for evading firewalls that, for whatever reason, prevent outgoing TCP connections, but allow in- and outgoing ICMP packets. The tunnel works by having a proxy run on a machine ping-able from the inside of the firewall, with the client running on the local machine from which TCP access is required. Changes: This release adds support for authentication, allowing users to protect access to the ptunnel proxy using a password. This release also fixes a number of small bugs, and adds a man page.
