A world of producers

A world of producers 01/09/2004 10:09 PM

The New Economy Hack: Turning Consumers into Producers, is my report from Macworld for Linux Journal.

One additional note. A number of Microsoft employees at the show told me that the company decided not to continue working on Internet Explorer for OS X because there was no upside to competing with the platform vendor's own free product. For help in plumbing the ironies of that one, revisit Dave's Platform is Chinese Household, from 1994.

Wondering out loud... what kind of household is the platform we call the Net, or the Web? I don't have an answer, by the way. I just think it's a question that's worth asking.

Turning consumers into producers 01/16/2004 11:27 AM
The final scan of my RSS feeds, last night, pulled in an item from Doc Searls who said that he was on live radio at The Linux Show. (Doc's item also mentions the RS S Winterfest Webcast a week from today. I'll be there; the complete list of participants is he re.) When I clicked through to The Linux Show's stream, I heard Doc say some things about the recent Macworld and CES shows that really hit home -- so much so that I wanted to hear them again. I reached for the RealPlayer's slider, but it was unresponsive. Doc wasn't kidding, he really was coming live from that radio show. His announcement of that fact made it from his computer to his blog to my aggregator in time for me to catch the live stream. Just another one of the daily miracles that I can't yet bring myself to take for granted. ...

Commercial interest in RSS seems to be heating up.  I was intrigued by the domain name (pheedo.com) of one of the commenters (Bill Flitter) to the Ads in Feeds and OEM News Aggregators posts, so I looked up and found this:

Pheedo provides comprehensive solutions to help publishers maximize revenue from content syndication including RSS and ATOM formats.

Maybe Bill Flitter can talk a bit about his (Portland-based?) company and what it's about.  Bill?

Is it just me or am I starting to sound like Larry King?
