Sony HandyCam DCR-DVD301
Sony HandyCam DCR-DVD301
09/08/2004 07:22 AM
Despite the ever-present push towards "smaller,"
there's nothing small about Sony's new "DCR-DVD301" DVD Handycam's
screen. At first glance, it appears to be a standard DVD Handycam -
same 1.4GB 8cm DVD writing, and more or less the same specifications -
but when you look twice, you realize this new unit is equipped with a
3.5" LCD. Indeed, Sony has added a full inch in at least one area,
which is more than anyone can ask, really.
"With great LCD screens comes great price," my uncle once said, and
apparently he was right on target: you'll pay nearly $1,100 for this
camera, presuming it gets released in America for a similar price as
the Japanese market.

05/27/2004 03:09 AMVideo Edit Magic Express makes video editing as simple as possible for
the average user at a new low breakthrough price. We have departed
from the storyboard concept most video editors use to a more familiar
method of select, cut/copy, and paste editing. This makes video
editing more intuitive to new users and retains the flexibility of
full featured video editing. Now you can easily decorate your videos
by dragging and dropping effects, adding background scores, and
changing the volume of individual tracks for audio mixing. The
built-in capture tool enables you to quickly capture video from a
camcorder, capture-card, or USB video camera and move it to your hard
disk. You can also add captured footage directly to the timeline for
further editing. You can combine video, audio, and image files on the
same timeline for editing operations, making it simple to compose your
video masterpiece!

03/24/2005 02:53 PMYou've got your shiny black beast home and charged and you've
already watched Spider-Man 2 twice—what video is next for
your PSP? You can convert some of your own content using the software
tools we listed in our PSP Omegapost (yes, I
regret that name now, too), but if you just want some short free
clips, we're starting a list of places to get free content that's
already formated for your baby. As always, if you have a suggestion,
send it in and we'll be happy to add it.

05/20/2004 11:47 AMAnother Hard Disk Sony Video Player?
Another Hard Disk Sony Video Player?
08/02/2004 10:25 AM
So there's stink about this
one possibly being a fake, but there's a new Sony hard disk-based
video player on Japanese website CD Report that claims to have a 20GB
hard drive crammed into a unit just a hair bigger than the iPod mini
(hence, the fake rumors). If it is legit, it is supposed to be
released sometime around Christmas for a price in the neighborhood of
$450 - not a bad price if it ends up being the real deal.
Of course, Sony learned from the HMP-A1 that people might actually
like players that could support native MP3 playback, so the new
unit is rumored to have only ATRAC support (that means, basically,
that this thing will be a dud as a music player).

Sony PSP Video from Tokyo Game Show
Sony PSP Video from Tokyo Game Show

So something happened to me while I was watching this
video of the Sony PSP from the Tokyo Game Show. I think it was in the
middle of the Darkstalkers game that I realized that all my
worries about battery life, size, and durability were sort of moot,
because I want to play portable games that look like that right
now. I'm not ready to call it the next portable platform winner,
but if they can eke more than the rumored 2-3 hours of play time out
of that battery they've got a very good shot at stealing the majority
market from Nintendo.

Sony HMP-A1 VAIO Video Pocket Review
Sony HMP-A1 VAIO Video Pocket Review
07/12/2004 10:34 AM
I should warn you: I'm sort of
lukewarm on portable video players altogether. I don't commute to
work, and when I did, there was enough jostling and train swapping to
make anything that required focused attention, like reading books or
watching video, a fractured and annoying experience. But still, there
is an opportunity for a video player like the HMP-A1 to be useful -- I
just don't think this would be the one I would buy.

SorobanGeeks' Akihabara News team has pictures and
video (set inexplicably, if pleasantly, to the Beatles' "Back in the
USSR") of Sony's new VAIO R Series Media Center PC, the one with the
fancified liquid cooling system (with a gapped-case air intake on the
side). While it's probably out of the price range of most DIYers
(although it's not too painful, at around $2,400), there's no
denying the VAIO R, with its plethera of ports and black slab styling
makes for an impressive looking tiny god.
