real reason we're going back to the Moon? "Researchers and
space enthusiasts see helium 3 as the perfect fuel source: extremely
potent, nonpolluting, with virtually no radioactive by-product.
Proponents claim it’s the fuel of the 21st century. The trouble is,
hardly any of it is found on Earth. But there is plenty of it on the
moon."

12/19/2004 03:18 PM Call it a low-orbit satellite or a high-flying blimp, but wireless
broadband takes on a new form: There are several companies trying to
put planes or blimps into high flight patterns to provide
line-of-sight to enormous areas. Sanswire Networks launches their
airship satellite next month. It hovers at 13 miles and can blanket an
area the size of Texas with high-speed service....

Marines Swap Radio Towers for Blimps
Marines Swap Radio Towers for Blimps
04/14/2005 10:02 AM
Blimps are great, especially if you don't fill them full of
screaming, burning people. The Marines in Iraq are testing out this
new MARTS (Marine Airborne Re-Transmission Systems) blimps as
replacements for radio towers, running singals up through fiber-obtic
which are then repeated over UHF/VHF. They are a few million dollars a
pop, but they can run for two weeks without refueling and are harder
to disable than a ground-based radio tower—each MARTS can resist
small arms fire and operated wtih a 4-inch hole in its skin.

Microsoft To Bridge Office, Back Office
Apps
01/26/2004 01:10 AMMicrosoft continues to build bridges between Office desktop apps and
reservoirs of back-office data. The "Information Worker Bridge"
project now under way seeks to make it easier for integrators or
in-house developers to make Excel or Word de-facto front ends for
back-end accounting, ERP or other applications, sources said. In
theory, this would take back-office integration beyond ODBC drivers
and InfoPath, the Office application that lets people build dynamic
forms on their desktops that tap into back-office XML data.
