04/23/2004 04:22 PMSt. Clair Software has released HistoryHound 1.0, which searches
through your history and bookmarks in Safari and returns matches
ranked by relevance. It uses the "V-Twin" fast-search technology found
in Mac OS X v10.3 "Panther" to return matches and includes a built-in
browser that renders search results in a window when you click on
them. You can perform simple searches, as well as sophisticated
Boolean or include/exclude searches, and a hot key summons the search
window when you need it. Pricing is US$19.95. HistoryHound requires
Mac OS X v.10.3 "Panther" or higher. It currently supports Safari, but
St. Clair notes that "other browsers will be added in future
releases."

History of Web Search from 1998 to 2005
04/15/2005 06:25 PMJan Pedersen at the Infonortics Search Engines ConferenceSearch has
grown substantially, gone from a few million documents to at least
five billion, at least 400 million queries per day worldwide, hundreds
of thousands of machines engaged. The relevance, as defined by user
search satisfaction, has become good (enough). The very first web
search engines were fairly simple word matching, the later generations
more tuned for relevance. They used techniques like proximity
weighting, anchor text (links pointing to the page), and incoming
links (later including Google page ranks). Note that the process of
constructing a webwide search index is a very complex activity: lots
of network traffic, analysis, reads and writes.User Interface in the
1998 version of Infoseek are much the same as 2005 search results.
The main changes are a "dynamic abstract" -- matching search terms in
page context, and cached pages.Other changes - targeted advertising
successful business model, search can be a priority. Moore's law and
a switch from big iron servers to relatively small servers in vast
farms.

Sorry. I was just wondering why there aren't more posts like
this which would
be more useful to geeks than waka waka about blogging or poo poo
about Bush.
To avoid disappointing you altogether, here is a golden rule I
learned when I was
single:
Don't ask questions that could be answered with a No.
Until she got to know you well enough to make an informed decision
about you, stick
with the rule and ask other types of questions. If she gets
that twinkle in
her eyes, check your wallet to see if you need to make a run to the
drug store.
If she gets that pestered look, walk away happy knowing that she
wasn't your type
after all. Delusions can be useful when you are single.
;-)
If you are a complete loser, stick with the rule until she calls
the cop or makes
a run for the door. If you are a persistent bastard, keep at
it until she gets
a restraining order against you. If you are a clueless idiot,
follow her to
Texas and congratulate her for getting a gun license.
If a butterfly in Beijing can destroy Kansas, this post has a
good chance of triggering
a population explosion.

Plugin for Movable Type: Ouch, this is a good plugin.
There's no limit to what you can do with this.
This Movable Type plugin implements a set of template tags
for retrieving data in XML format and displaying the data on your
MT-generated pages. [...] The plugin will work with any well-formed
XML document that can be retrieved via an HTTP GET
request.
Connect a template with this stuff to the MT-Rebuild script and you could retrieve XML on a schedule, format it up into
HTML, then include it all over your site, all with Movable Type. The
utility of it is giving me a cramp.
