FBI's New Computer System: Late,

Terrorists

FBI's New Computer System: Late,
Overbudget...And Useless For Finding
Terrorists
05/12/2004 11:13 AM
Back in 2000 the FBI decided it was finally time to upgrade their computer system, realizing they were very much out of date. They set up a plan that was expected to cost $380 million and be completed in 2003. It's now 2004 and $600 million have already been poured into it... and a new study says the system is useless in fighting terrorism. It was originally designed to help with investigations, and not counter-intelligence. Apparently, no one designing the system thought to make it flexible enough to adjust should the main focus of the FBI change at all. Instead, they just spent and spent - and are now being told they may need to start all over again from scratch. It's not as if no one knew terrorism was a threat in 2000, either. No wonder the FBI remains so good at trackin g down kids file sharing, but can't seem to disting uish video game villains from real terrorists.

Companies Forget To Protect Against
Internal Computer Security Threats
09/23/2004 11:18 AM
Remember the good old days when the majority of your computer security threats came from inside the company? That went away as the internet became the domain of more organized attempts at breaking down security walls of almost every IP address imaginable. However, that doesn't mean there aren't still threats from inside the firewall -- and it looks like many companies still don't take insider threats seriously. Once again, it sounds like a more hybrid approach to computer security might make sense. Rather than just watching in one direction, keeping track of things both inside and outside the network is becoming more important.

06/09/2004 04:35 AM
Bridging the distance between the Hollywood film industry and the best new screenwriters across the country, the Nashville Screenwriters Conference announces its first National Screenplay Showdown. After six years of presenting the best writers and filmmakers in the entertainment industry at the Nashville Screenwriters Conference, the organization has teamed up with Ed Rugoff from the prestigious Chesterfield Writer’s Film Project to give aspiring screenwriters an opportunity to take their work west – all the way to Hollywood. The Showdown evaluates screenplays solely on the basis of story-telling ability, meaning that all genres have the same chance of winning. The winning screenplay writers will find themselves in front of the most prestigious literary agencies and management companies in consideration for representation. [PRWEB Jun 9, 2004]
