lawsuit to block Oracle Corp.'s (ORCL.O) $7.7-billion takeover

the market for business software that overlooks evidence of
competition, Oracle said in court documents filed on Tuesday.

“Thirty-four vulnerabilities — the majority of them
critical — have been identified in multiple versions of
Oracle’s database server. “Most of the flaws are
critical,” said David Litchfield, a researcher at UK-based
NGSSoftware, whose company discovered the flaws. “One allows an
attacker to gain control of the database server without a userID or
password. Others allow low-privileged users (i.e. those that do have a
userID and password) to gain complete control of the database
server.”…

Oblix Joins Oracle
03/29/2005 06:33 AMIn an open letter to Oblix customers, Rick Simmons, Vice President of
Oblix inc. announced plans that the company would be merging with
Oracle.
"The union of our two companies will provide an even greater
security solution for our customers ...... the combined strength of
Oracle's worldwide presence and its extensive software and services
business coupled with Oblix's products, people, and vision bring to
the industry an unprecedented ability to build identity into software
infrastructure and applications while continuing to deliver a new
generation of identity offerings"
Oblix is a privately held developer of identity-based security
solutions for heterogeneous computing environments. Originally founded
in 1996, the company is a leading developer of identity management
software that allows web access control including Single Sign On
(SSO), identity administration and user provisioning. Oblix also
provides security and regulatory compliance solutions.
The merger benefits Oracle customers and will provide them with a
complete solution for securely managing identities. Oracle recently
purchased software company Peoplesoft in a bid to maintain it's
presence as a global heavyweight in the industry. It faces increased
competition from the likes of Microsoft who has big plans for identity
management software in the next revision of Windows, codenamed
Longhorn.
Effective today, you can find out more about the merger

Nokia Joins WWiSE 802.11n Group
03/14/2005 05:46 PM Nokia has put its weight behind the WWiSE proposal: WWiSE and the
competing TGn Sync consortium have a similar set of ideas, but WWiSE
says that it's approach provides more optional extensions that will
make it easier to have a subset of devices with room to grow in the
future instead of burdening all devices with the load of meeting
certain difficult-to-implement technologies. TGn Sync says, "Pshaw" to
that. The 802.11n task group will vote next week during an IEEE
meeting. If either proposal receives more than 50 percent of the
votes, it will be accepted as the basis of drafts. Drafts require a
supermajority of 75 percent to make changes, which means that if one
proposal wins next week, it will be difficult to add or subtract much
from it, but various technological improvements can still be made....

Onkyo is the latest company to pledge allegiance to
the HD DVD army, joining the ranks of all the other companies who have
said they'll be releasing content. But just like a lot of other
companies who have joined one group or the other, they're still sort
of on the fence about things.
We haven't joined [the Blu-ray Disc Association] yet, but
are still continuing contact. It's not as though we're going to choose
one or the other; we'll look into it depending on our needs and the
merit in the future.
I'm still not sure why Onkyo would even bother with this
announcement; they're primary an audio component maker anyway. HD
DVD-Audio, maybe?

Oracle CEO testifies in antitrust case
07/01/2004 03:37 PMCEO of Oracle, Larry Ellison testified Wednesday in an antitrust case
involving the attempted takeover of PeopleSoft. Oracle’s CEO
testified that it would be in his companie’s interest to
continue supporting PeopleSoft’s products if the takeover was
allowed to go through. The Justice Department disagrees and believes
that Oracle’s acquisition of PeopleSoft would reduce the number
of vendors of specific specialized software.
The software in question is critical to human resources and corporate
finances departments for large corporations. This entire legal battle
is the aftermath of a hostile takeover attempt by Oracle that was then
halted by a lawsuit from the Justice Department.
