Olympics Shut Down Online Radio Stream
Of Radio Stations
08/16/2004 02:27 PMIt appears the folks running the Olympics are so focused on
controlling (i.e., "selling") the rights to broadcast accounts of the
Olympic games that they're
forcing
some radio stations to shut down their internet streams. The
radio stations in question have regular radio broadcast rights for the
Olympics, but since they didn't pay up to internet broadcast rights,
they need to turn off their internet streams for the duration of the
games. Considering the fact that it appears that no one is actually
attending these games in person, apparently, the Olympics has decided
that they're going to squeeze broadcasters for every last penny. Ah,
the spirit of the games.

04/23/2004 01:30 PMTwo Wi-Fi radio radios are coming, reports The Register: Tony Smith
discusses upcoming radios that will act like AM/FM tuners but work
over Wi-Fi and the Internet. Both Reciva (startup) and Linksys (part
of Cisco) will offer devices that handle radio stations streaming in
many formats over the Internet. Linksys's product, which they
apparently plan to make on behalf of other companies, will also
support Real Networks' subscription-fee-based Rhapsody network....

08/31/2004 08:20 AMLooks like XM has sold out to the man. The RIAA says they had
nothing to do with the removal of the XM PCR which when couples with
computer software allowed users to record streams of music and other
programming onto their computers.
This is another knee jerk reaction. We will see how long XM Radio
stays in business now. What a bunch of idiots. [ZDNet]

was banned by the US Occupation after WWII along with

were considered militaristic. I remember hearing a story on the radio
that the original
radio taiso came from the US. When life
insurance just started as a business in the US, there was an uproar
about "betting on people's lives." As part of a PR campaign, the life
insurance companies started broadcasting exercise programs on the
radio to make people more healthy. This culture migrated to Japan
where now every morning thousands of people exercise to

Here is the mp3 of chorus 1

Does anyone know if this story about the US insurance companies
is true or not?

XM Radio SKYBOX
XM Radio SKYBOX
08/20/2004 10:57 AM
XM Satellite Radio has announced the Audiophase
SKYBOX, and all-in-one boom box that includes the XM service (duh),
AM/FM tuner, and CD/MP3 player. In addition to all the standard
features, the SKYBOX will also come with a remote control and the
usual two-line XM radio display.
There's no word if the SKYBOX has an audio out, although I would
presume it has at least a headphone miniJack, if not a proper
line-out. It should be available from Best Buy this fall for $200.

Remember that Roberts "Poolside" radio I was talking
about earlier this week? Well, reader Carson Friday was in a
Brookstone and found this "All-Terrain AM/FM Radio" version, obviously
tuned for an American audience. I have to say, though, I don't find it
nearly as appealing in the DeWalty yellow and black (which is odd,
because I love those colors on DeWalt stuff), but the new paint job
does apparently upgrade this radio from 'poolside' classification to
'oceanside.' Too bad we didn't discover this trick before
hurricane season.
