'Microsoft pushes ID checks for email'
For some time now reports have been coming in that Microsoft was
going to get serious about sender ID checks for email. The belief is
that this will put a big damper on the continuing spam problem. Well,
it appears that they have started to take some initiative by asking
Internet service providers (ISPs) to publish Sender Policy Framework
(SPF) records. This will identify their e-mail servers in the domain
name system. If the whole…

Bugmenot "racism and hate" update -- and
they'll be back
08/20/2004 12:33 PMXeni Jardin: Following up on
yesterday's post that corporate 'Net filtering service
Websense was blocking the recently
departed Bugmenot.com as a "Racism and Hate" site, BoingBoing reader
Scott Lindsey says:
"I'm pretty sure I know what's up with that. Currently, bugmenot.com
resolves to 69.93.251.37, which is probably an ISP server, with
multiple sites. Reverse DNS results in ns2.dissidenthosting.com, which
redirects http to www.micetrap.net (same IP address). It's a
mail-order house for skinhead music and related paraphernalia. Also,
according to the mozillazine forum originally linked to, bugmenot will
be back up in a few days, now hosted by nearlyfreespeech.net."

Windows Update v6 Released as Microsoft
Update
06/06/2005 12:13 AMThanks eXtermia for the heads up on this news, found at DriverHeaven
They are reporting that Microsoft have publically released Windows
Update v6, now dubbed
Microsoft Update. Users on Windows 2000,
2003 Server and XP have access to the web site after downloading an
ActiveX update. The new update site supports both Windows and Office
2003 updates in one central location making it easier for customers to
get a hold of the latest patches and updates available to Microsoft
software.
Once at the website, you'll have to agree to download some new
software which may take a couple of minutes, but once done you'll see
the new version of the Windows Update website - although there don't
seem to be any new updates on there at the moment. Windows XP users
will have to have
at least Service Pack 1 to use the site.
