You Control: Fonts offers WYSIWYG OS X
font menu
04/28/2004 12:56 PM

You Software has introduced a new font utility, You Control: Fonts. The application organizes your fonts into families and allows you to create a WYSIWYG Mac OS X font menu that lists your fonts in their typefaces, so you can see what they look like before you select them. You can access the menu from anywhere in Mac OS X, and you can manage your font collection through the OS X Font Book.

quirkle_quark.jpg imageThe Quark claims to the world's "highest performance classic spinning top in the world." That means it'll spin for a long, long time—up to 15 minutes a twirl, they say. Manufacturer Quirkle will even include a laser pointer with each purchase to aid in "precision dynamic balancing," as well as a glass spinning surface (aka "a mirror") and attractive wood leveling shims (aka "wedges"). Prices range from just $50 for a brass version up to $2,500 for a 14k gold model. There is also an extra geeky tungsten model for just $150. No word yet if there will be a gold-pressed latinum version of the Quark.

This new version improves the speed and efficiency of designers in a variety of workflows from text-intensive book, magazine, and newspaper production to high-end XML-based cross-media workflows. Designers can increase productivity and create more consistent designs by saving graphic, text, and frame-level attributes as Object Styles, which are easy to apply and globally update. Exporting objects with the new InDesign snippets features enables users to easily share or repurpose live InDesign content and layouts from part of a page.
