Note to coworkers regarding sick days
12/13/2003 10:27 AMFellow Yahoos, Apparently some of you have forgotten about our
company's most excellent "sick days" policy. It basically states that
there's no fixed number of sick days that you're allowed to use per
year. You cannot accumulate sick days and they don't expire. Instead,
when you're sick or have a medical obligation, you stay home or
otherwise deal with it. The logical consequence of this policy, I
thought, was quite simple--easy enough for a 5 year old to grasp.

“Experts at Sophos have warned computer users that a file
posing as a suicide note from Arnold Schwarzenegger is in fact
infected by a malicious Trojan horse. Thousands of messages posted to
internet newsgroups over the weekend encourage computer users to
download a file containing a supposed suicide note from
actor-turned-politician Schwarzenegger. In reality, users who run the
file may be opening their computers up to attack from
hackers.”…

Promoting Fake Sick Days
08/04/2004 03:05 PMApparently, despite all the clever humor to come out of the UK over
the years, the folks who work at the Advertising Standards Authority
in the UK have no sense of humor at all. Tech giant Benq started an
ad campaign this summer suggesting that with their products, your
"bogus sick days will be 33% more enjoyable." Not laugh out loud
funny, but an amusing little tagline to get some interest.
Apparently, the ASA is scared to death that people will take this
seriously and start
calling in sick just
to mess around with Benq computers -- because we're sure that
before this ad came out no one ever faked a sick day.

Oh, don't worry, I doubt the Aero team will listen to me. But, my
goal wasn't really to get the Aero team to listen to me anyway. It was
to get the market to think about what they'd like to see in Longhorn.
Goal achieved!

Postini: Half of all e-mail requests
rejected
07/08/2004 09:09 AMAntispam company Postini Inc. said that it is now rejecting more than
half of all attempts to send e-mail to its customers, due in part to
increased activity from compromised home computers that have been
turned into "zombies" for sending unsolicited commercial ("spam")
e-mail. The company is dropping 53 percent of all e-mail connections
that use the SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) without reading the
content of the e-mail messages. That's an almost 20 percent increase
since the company began aggregating information about troublesome
Internet addresses from across its customer base, said Andrew Lochart,
director of product marketing at Postini.

07/28/2004 07:31 AMCreating answers for the requests to the requests to your web server
can sometimes be a hassle. 404s are the easiest - with a simple Apache
directive, users can be directed to a nice simple page telling them of
the error. Most of the others can be handled similarly, but
this
article might just be a better way.
