Q Comm International, Inc. (Amex: QMM; QMM.WS), a provider of prepaid transaction processing and electronic point-of-sale (POS) distribution solutions, today announced that it has commercially launched its prepaid application for the VeriFone Omni 3750 terminal. This new application will enable the electronic distribution of prepaid and related services through the Omni 3750, which is a payment-processing terminal currently used for merchant processing of credit and debit card payments in thousands of locations. Q Comm supports the Omni 3750 terminal with its proprietary backend transaction processing platform. siemens_mw_.gif imageIs it just me, or does it seem like F.A. Porche is designing everything these days, like laptops, and hard drives, and - oh hey - a kitchen scale. This Siemens-built scale looks nice enough, but nothing special, so it sort of dilutes the brand cachet, doesn't it? It's like that damn Ferrari laptop that Acer makes - if it weren't for the nice red paint job on that thing (well, and the badge) you'd never know it had a thing to do with Ferrari.

Oh, you guys need a code, don't you. There's one in this post.

According to the Industry Standard, Siemens AG will be merging their mobile and fixed communications businesses into a single entity called Siemens Communications. Siemens has stated that the merger is aimed at helping them to serve their customers better. I however, suspect it is also going to do a little magic on the old pocket book as well….

benq.gifThis is a story about the unintended consequences of a business decision. Siemens handed their phone division over to BenQ, and now folks like Lite-On—who make just about every optical drive in the entire world—and Quanta Computer are stuck with dead orders, scrambling to make ends meet. It's a trickle-down economy out there, folks.

Some of the smaller companies are even merging with each other just to stay afloat. I'm wondering what happened when IBM sold out to Lenovo. I'll bet an entire Pacific Rim island sank.

Two New Pocket PCs from Fujitsu-Siemens:
Loox 410 and 420

fujitsu_loox400.jpg imageTwo new Pocket PCs from Fujitsu-Siemens, the Pocket LOOX 410 and 420. Both have 240 x 320 pixel 65k transflective screens, Bluetooth and infrared, and SDIO, while the 420 alone has integrated WiFi. The 410 gets a 300MHz Intel XScale PXA255, while the 420 putts along with a 400Mhz version, both driven by Windows Mobile 2003. All in all, very nice looking, physically, but a little behind the cutting edge of internals (where's the hot VGA screens or the Bulverde processors?) One nice touch, though, is the battery buffer that gives users up to 30 minutes to swap in a new battery after the standard 1100 mAh/10 hour one runs down.
