Rivals on Backup Databases
06/07/2004 10:33 AMMicrosoft last month announced that it would no longer charge Software
Assurance customers for backup database servers, provided that the
systems remain off unless the main database crashes or is corrupted
and that they aren't used for processing on a regular basis.
Previously, users had to pay a variable fee to install a backup SQL
Server database for disaster recovery purposes, said Sunny Charlebois,
a product manager in Microsoft's worldwide licensing and pricing
group.

Intel Itanium Processor Touchstone
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (64-bit):
Intel Itanium Processor Touchstone
12/25/2003 11:25 PMIn the four years since the first public demonstration of 64-bit
Windows in 1999, the OS has been fully ported and now runs native
Itanium instructions for both the kernel and supporting processes. The
LLP64 Windows pointer model (int and long remain 32 bits wide, "long
long" and pointers are defined as 64 bits wide) provided for minimal
code changes during the port. With the exception of architectural
specific design in the kernel (some examples in table below), 32-bit
and 64-bit Windows share common source code. For example, the Windows
user interface remains the same. All the familiar Windows tools from
Microsoft Notepad to Microsoft Internet Explorer can be produced in
32-bit or 64-bit images. The same holds true for application
development: 32-bit code and 64-bit code can share common source.

data source to any device. Reporting Services SP1 is available to SQL
Server 2000 customers free via Web download and includes enhancements
that increase functionality, performance and security. Key features of
SP1 include support for exporting reports to Excel 97 and 2000,

04/16/2004 01:01 PMTo upgrade to Microsoft® Windows® Small Business Server 2003 from
Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 or Windows 2000 Server, you must
perform a server migration. A server migration includes installing
Windows Small Business Server 2003 on a new computer, and then
migrating data and settings. You can complete a server migration to
either a retail installation of Windows Small Business Server 2003 or
to a computer purchased from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
that was preinstalled with Windows Small Business Server 2003.
