Fatherless Mice Muddy the Water

Fatherless Mice Muddy the Water 04/27/2004 04:40 AM

The fatherless mouse born last week didn't just demonstrate a new way to make babies. It also reveals a new way to get stem cells. Surprisingly, it butts up against the same old ethical issues. By Kristen Philipkoski.

mice_tasting.jpgSo this is really old news, but I thought it was double-cool. Not only do I like the idea of mice shape "wine-tasting sessions" to determine the best shape, but isn't it amusing how close the first Macintosh and Lisa computers came to having two-button mice? Think of the world we'd live in if Macs had two-button mice. Would there even be something to troll about on Slashdot?!

Oh, right. Linux sucks. (Thanks, Ilostyouremail!)

OMStarck_Orange.jpg imageMicrosoft tries their hand at peripherale couture with a new mouse designed by industrial designer Philippe Starck, reminiscent of the hemispheres of a brain, they say. To me, it recalls the smooth contours and glowing comfort of ... the mouse. Still, I give Microsoft room to get as fruity as they want -- their mice have been my go-to interface pucks for years.

Microsoft has also added a few new Special Edition finishes to their Wireless Optical and IntelliMouse Explorer lines. Since when is nice product design "performance art," though?
