Where is Rusty?

Where is Rusty? 04/25/2004 03:13 PM
Rusty seems to have disappeared again leaving the website to stagnate. This time he has disabled new users from registration meaning that the userbase will slowly shrink while he procrastinates and refuses to delegate tasks to others.

Congrats Rusty

It looks like Rusty has gotten a daytime gig as an Internet big cheese. I notice that the sidebar blurb of Armstrong Zúniga LLC (a web consulting shop for political campaigns) now says: Rusty Foster joined Armstrong Zúniga in February of 2004 as CTO. Rusty created the Scoop software platform in 1999 and founded Kuro5hin.org the same year. Kuro5hin is widely recognized as a pioneering project in collaborative media, and Rusty has written and spoken extensively about the potential of the internet as a medium for collaboration and grassroots organizing. AP - The Indiana Pacers bounced back from a sluggish start with a 26-5 run spanning the end of the second and start of the third quarters that propelled them to a 94-81 victory over the weary Miami Heat on Thursday night in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series.

Kuro5hin Needs More Users

Kuro5hin Needs More Users 04/12/2005 03:36 AM
Kuro5hin is in danger of losing its relevance. What makes a website like this worth visiting is if there are many users contributing to it and currently there are not enough contributions to this site to keep it interesting. Whilst in its heydey in 2001 it clocked up approximately 100 million page views per day and had almost half a billion regular users, the current statistics are less exciting. Only six comments have been posted in the past year and usually there is only one page view per week, from the monkeys in Berlin zoo who have internet in their cage. The site needs to be much more dynamic. We need to think up ways to get more users contributing. Below are a few ideas which I think may help: Pay people to contribute. Disguise Kuro5hin as a more popular website and trick people into contributing. Employ bots which will mimic real users, posting randomly-generated comments and stories. Make Kuro5hin ultra-hip and then use viral marketing to promote it. Cause the passage of time to be accelerated so that the site seems to be more busy. Promote Kuro5hin in establishments such as mental hospitals, nursing homes and prisons, where people don't have much to do but have interesting opinions. Inside I will discuss these ideas and ask for additional ones.

Won't you be my neighbour? Believe it or not, to this day I didn't know who Mr. Rogers was. But I've said yes to his memorable question, and so have you--if you, like me, have taken the time to register and regularly visit Kuro5hin. We've became neighbours our own little virtual 'hood. But who are these people around us? Who is trhurler, and will he be throwing things at me? Where is localroger? Does Battle Troll have an axe to grind? This i guy, is he real? Let's find out.

Ask Chuck Palahniuk: the Kuro5hin
Interview

Ask Chuck Palahniuk: the Kuro5hin
Interview
06/25/2004 04:00 AM
Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club, Choke: A Novel, Survivor) is back. Of course, in a community like K5, where Fight Club quotes in signature lines are considered cliche, Palahniuk needs little introdution. His most recent work, Stranger Than Fiction: True Stories presents a pastiche of interviews (Marilyn Manson, Juliette Lewis), articles and essays presented through the minimalist, dystopian perspective that is uniquely his own. In short, Chuck has a book to pimp and he is willing to do an interview with K5, so this is your chance to ask Chuck Palahniuk.

Dennis Kucinich: the Kuro5hin interview

Dennis Kucinich: the Kuro5hin interview 12/24/2003 04:15 AM
These are times, Dennis Kucinich says, for hope, not fear. We're standing in Phoenix's Sky Harbor airport, transformed by the recently raised national terror alert into a hive of police and security guards. We seem to be surrounded by fear, yet Kucinich is undaunted. There is a gleam in his eye, and a rising excitement in his voice as he leans still closer to me, fixing my gaze with his. What's got this Democratic congressman and presidential hopeful excited right now isn't universal healthcare, an unjust war, or a national media bent on excluding underdog candidates before a single primary vote has been cast. He will speak passionately about all of those things and more before he steps through the security gate and presents himself as another shoeless potential terrorist to the guards. What has Dennis Kucinich excited right now is open source software, creativity in the development process, and the need to keep IT expertise here at home.
