imageJTT's "iCue" FM transmitter is pretty straightforward. It's so straightforward, in fact, basically all of the improvements are visible in the image at the right. Yes, it's here and it's clear - the headphone cable and batteries are visible inside of the unit through the transparant blue plastic cover.

One "feature" that struck me as odd about this transmitter is how it can only change between four different frequencies, all on the 88MHz band. Why? That sucks! It also claims to have a 10-meter range, though if my experience with other products has taught me anything, it gets close to useless around 1-meter.

Appreciating the Sonnet

Appreciating the Sonnet 03/19/2003 10:25 PM
Some simple forms of poetry are popular and in common use today, like the haiku and the limerick. But the classic European form--the sonnet, a fourteen-line poem traditionally written in iambic pentameter and in various forms--seems to have fallen out of favor. Perhaps this ignominy is due to the relative complexity and variety of the sonnet form, although realizing that it is divided up (into an octet and a sestet, or perhaps three quatrains followed by a doublet), that's scarcely more than two (or, well, three) limericks! Or perhaps it's the iambic pentameter (plus or minus one) that throws people off. Or the rhyme scheme. But since the sonnet evolved with its writers, of course some liberties can be taken with its form.

Grand Central Transmitter Theories

Grand Central Transmitter Theories 08/31/2004 06:03 AM

Reader Morgan writes:

After reading about the Grand Central setups on Gizmodo I decided to take a look around when I passed through Grand Central on my way home tonight. First off, they're scattered all over the main concourse (one over track 27 and several along the departure boards were the most visible).

Risking a Homeland Security smackdown, I decided to ask some police standing around about them, and if they were indeed, cellular relays. After a studying look and pause the MTA officer said, "I have no idea what they are" and turned away. Eventually I found a Customer Service guy who after a few, "Why are you asking?" and, "I'm not supposed to say anythings" divulged that they were cameras.

Altough I wasn't about to take any photos after flagging myself as the curious type, I noticed that there wasn't any visible lens on the device but there was something resembling a motion detector. Perhaps some kind of IR motion tracker?

More conjecture after the link.

After playing around with the new iTrip mini, the FM broadcasting accessory for the iPod our little minds got working on some ideas. We thought we might be able to make the range of Griffin†™s iTrip mini a little better if took it apart and exposed the antenna, turns out we could. And then we thought, hey- we could use a couple iPods to broadcast something we wanted to get out there, perhaps not “should” that is, but could. So that was our motivation, and here’s the How To.

Offering a full-color, 16-bit screen as well as 30GB and 60GB capacities, the iPod Photo displays photos and album art in an interface that’s undeniably Apple.
