This may seem obvious, but bringing up the force quit window (hit Command-Option-Escape) and double-clicking one of the listed apps will bring it to the front. It may not be elaborate, but it works -- and it stays on screen ...

The User Agent Switcher extension for Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla adds a menu to switch the user agent of the browser. It is designed to provide functionality similar to the 'Browser Identification' feature of Opera and allows configuration of the list of user agents to display in the menu.

And while the JX-S777 isn't the sort of thing that will be totally future-proof—it's lack of DVI or HDMI HDTV interfaces pretty much guarantee that—if you work with a lot of composite and s-video sources, its ability to convert signals on the fly is pretty handy as both a video mixer or a home theater router. You can get something with a lot more capability, but probably not for $600.

That said, what's the baddest of the asses in video switchers these days?

After I acknowledge receipt of the message, by default it removes the search string from the WFM list. This is like a white list that plays favorites. Brazil looks to close technology gap
with open source
11/18/2003 01:23 AM

A new policy set in place by the administration of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva aims to move its systems from expensive Microsoft products to a Linux -based platform in order to cut computer costs. Sergio Amadeu, head of Brazil's National Information Technology Institute , also hopes that the move to open source will help ease the digital divide in his country:

[He] argues that the gap between the needy and the wealthy will only deepen unless the poor have easy access to the technology that the rich have at their fingertips, especially in developing countries like Brazil.

IBM has entered into an agreement with the Brazilian government to explore the move to open source.

Kicking it up a notch: Microsoft's open
source message gains subtlety
04/07/2005 05:06 AM
VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Barnaby Jeans, an IT Pro Advisor at Microsoft Canada, has a new approach to Microsoft advocacy. In the past, Microsoft executives have been reported as describing GNU/Linux as a cancer or communism. Other reports include warnings that corporate users risk being sued, and that the "Pac-Man-like nature" of its licenses may make interoperability between applications harder. The Get the Facts Web site continues these direct attacks, although with greater detail. However, Jeans has a subtler message for corporate customers. In fact, his message is less in what he says than how he says it.
