Struts 1.2.2 Released
Struts 1.2.2 Released
09/16/2004 03:26 PM
Struts is still widely used
by server-side
Java developers, but I have stopped tracking it after the release
of Struts 1.1 more than a year ago. So it's no surprise
that I didn't notice
the release of Struts 1.2.2 until now.
Scanning through the Release
Notes, I don't see any compelling reasons to upgrade.
Even worse, there
are good reasons to not upgrade, like removal of code deprecated in
1.1 which will
break some existing code.
I don't think I'll be upgrading my Struts 1.1-based projects and,
for new java webapp
projects, I'll be using the Spring
Framework.
So long and thanks for all the actions, Struts. It's been
fun watching the
paint dry.

04/06/2005 09:10 AMA couple of quick updates regarding the open Editorial position here at Gizmodo.
We've gotten a ton of good submissions, so I'll be going through them
over the next few days and contacting the ones we're interested in
early next week. If you'd like to send in your applicaton, feel free
to look at the guidelines in the linked thread and send something in.
A few have asked when the 'deadline' is—there isn't one. The
deadline ends when we hire an editor, or assitant editor, or whatever
it is we decide to call this position. Good luck!

When I was at Linz, a bunch of people made me provide a list of all
of the applications that I'm running on my Mac. I realize I do this to
people too. I've seen people make lists of their favorite applications
on their blogs, but I realized that it might be better to do on a
wiki. I've made a list of my favorite applications. Feel free to click
on any of the application links and comment on the page for the
application. Also, feel free to make a similar page for yourself and
list YOUR favorite applications. If we can get a bunch of people on
the wiki with their lists, it might end up being an interesting
resource.
Is there something like this elsewhere already?

Developing 64-bit Applications
Developing 64-bit Applications
12/22/2004 12:59 AMMac OS X Tiger breaks the limitations of 32-bit computing and allows
developers to create command-line applications, servers, and
computation engines that can work with mind-blowing amounts of memory.
Previous versions of Mac OS X have been able to take advantage of more
than 4GB of system memory when running on a G5-equipped Mac, but each
application was still subject to the 4GB limit imposed by a 32-bit
address space. Tiger obliterates that restriction and allows
applications to access a 64-bit address space when running on the
PowerPC G5. Better yet, this support comes with no compromise in the
ability to run current 32-bit applications.
