Apple's iTunes Music Store was nominated for three Webb y Awards this year and brought home honors in two of those categories. Apple was nominated in the Commerce, Music and Services categories, winning the Commerce and Music awards, but were beaten out by Google for the Services entry.

There are also live events held several times a year where folks gather to tell stories on stage, all the audio of which is available under a Creative Commons license.

The Webby Awards: 2004 Nominees: The 2004 Webby nominees have been announced. Friendster is in there, so is Wikipedia (twice). Red v. Blue and The Onion got Humor nods. Music Plasma — the mind-bending Flash app — got picked for Music. The only "bloggish" nom was Blog for America — the Howard Dean effort.

There's a definitie culture shift between the Webbies and the Bl oggies . With a few exceptions, the Webby noms are all very corporate, very flashy, whilst the Bloggies are very earthy and homegrown. Such is the definition, I suppose.

We were quite happy to hear that today the Webby Award nominations came out, and Creative Commons is up for "Be st Home/Welcome Page."

We couldn't have done it without the crew at Adaptive Path leading the user research, prototyping, and testing, while Doug Bowman helped with the illustrations, and Ryan Junell with the logos. I completed the design and build out and we've gotten a lot of good feedback as a result. I look forward to seeing the results in June, but my money's on one of the wiz-bang flash sites winning the webby. :)

Independent childrens recording artist Zak Morgan's second album was nominated for Grammy this year. The amazing part is that he is without any label backing: he produces his own albums, coordinates his own tours, and sells his CDs along the way. In this posting to CDBaby's site, he tells the story of how he went from struggling musician to successful musician to Grammy-nominated musician. Long story short: it involves a lot of hard work and planning to get gigs and takes a lot of savings to pay for a professional production. [via Scott Andrew]
