Looks like Sony’s insistence on driving in the screws on their customers may be affecting sales. In a recent business week article it’s stated that one of their hotter selling CD’s has been falling rather precipitously from the charts, at least on Amazon.
Truly the end of an era. The first distributed computing application to capture serious public interest is being rolled into BOINC. So while you’ll be able to search for extra terrestrial inteligence, it will no longer be through a single unified effort.
In an example of supply and demand in motion, oil prices continue to trade downward from their unnatural highs earlier this year. It looks like demand really does slack off when prices get too high.. even in an essential like oil.
It looks like BitTorrent will be making changes to their search engine to stem copyright infringment. No surprise there, as they’re somewhat liable for putting links to “forbidden” content. The DeCSS cases against 2600 showed us that.
What is surprising is that the MPAA bothered to take the time to do this.. most users probably aren’t aware that BitTorrent runs a search engine. But I don’t really expect the various Ass. of America groups to do anything aside from showboating. And spreading viruses or sueing their customers.
No toy is safe from the NYPIRG hit list. This year the venerable potatoe based play is being seen as a chokeing hazard.. despite having been available for many years.
Somehow I think parents are bright enough to gauge their childs toy chewing habits and purchas appropriate playthings. These are, after all, parents of children and therefore hopefully older than the children themselves.
And with a grand total of 16 child deaths (I’m assuming in the USA… there aren’t any other countries, right?) from toy related injuries their furvor might be a bit misplaced. Imagine what all that money they raise and spend could do for some, possibly any, other cause.
Lik-Sang is exporting the GP2X, a sweet Linux hand-held gaming machine from Hong Kong. Availability has been bumped to early next year from December of 2005.
This looks to be a nice platform for mobile media (audio and video), gaming, and toy development. Hopefully it sees an actual release.
It looks like Roman Catholics aren’t the only denomination to be having child abuse trouble. Mormons have apparently been ignoring sexual abuse too. Very reassuring that they’ll be fighting tooth and nail to prove they didn’t care.
It seems like religions in general have a hard time owning up if they’re not dealing with these sort of problems properly.
Texas’s high court has ruled that the statewide property tax imposed on Texas residents to finance the school system is unconstitutional. Looks like they’ll be looking for another way to finance the school system before June 1st.
So you’ve got a problem with web browsing but want to be a bit more discreent? Ghostzilla is an application that hides a mozilla browser in other applications. Run a web browser discreetly and invisibly as part of.. whatever it is you’re doing.
Now that the XBox360 is out, the power supply can officialy be declared enormous. Check out the size of that thing.
The US DoJ isn’t taking any action on Sony’s rootkit installation on upwards of 500,000 US citizens PCs. Instead, they’re moving to put individual users in jail for copyright infringment. Apparently, you can infringe on copyright and commit illegal acts.. as long as your a corporation instead of a citizen.
Great message to send out guys, really shows who you work for.
Apple has obtained a good portion of the music market in total. Offline retailers Borders and Tower Records have been surpassed in sales by iTunes.. and that’s only including the PC user base. Also, the numbers being touted around only include some digital sales and only on Windows making me question their accuracy.
Based on that I’d assume that non-US based digital music sales sites aren’t being covered by this survey. Outfits like AllofMP3.com could make a big difference in overall sales figures.
